  • Shell Games

[Read the article: How Bush is trying to save face in Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Tragically, the shell games being played by Bush & Cheney (let's face it, this is a two headed monster, at least...) are not only infuriating anyone that has more than 6 or 7 brain cells still charging; they are killing our kids and countless Iraqis. For those, the shells are mortar fire, not flim flam.

Of course, we're all sitting ducks in the line of fire, one way or another. If we are this pissed off, imagine the right wing jihadists ire, which will be spent on the U.S. citizenry. They, like Bush/Cheney, are content to drench the innocent and guiltless in blood.

Our politicians do nothing, the mainstream media plays along, and we will eat it for all of them.

We have zilch capacity to counter what's inevitably coming for this flamingly insane business as usual.

Unusual is on the way and it looks like hell.

  • Civics

[Read the article: The presidential primary scam]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mr. Scherer has done the elementary civics class one better, as usual, in this piece.

As always, little or nothing will be done to change these gross digressions from the "one man, one vote" notions we all prefer. We are no better than the collective culture we dwell in; it's filled with flawed human beings. We are so snared in the pursuit of the empty and meaningless accumulation of the trappings of "success" that we just don't have the time to pay attention to this sort of business, do we?

Of course, we all pay dearly for our lack of rigorous engagement in the alteration of nonsense perpetrated by the power brokers who pull our strings. At the root of our complacency is the preference for easy living without agitation. It's so simple to dismiss our aggravation with politicos who sell us the goods with the notion that our operation is still better than anyone else's. It just isn't worth the effort to rock the boat with that in mind.

Reordering of the priorities (indeed, consideration of what they are at all) doesn't generally occur until the boat is sinking.

  • Rational Thought

[Read the article: The Ron Paul phenomenon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"There is never a doubt that Paul actually believes what he is saying, nor is there any doubt that what he believes is the by-product of critical and rational thought grounded in genuine political passion." Says you, Glenn.

I do not doubt Paul's sincerity. It is a squeak far-flung to suggest his positions rise from critical and rational thinking, however.

Paul's position on abortion, which proceeds from his notion of life beginning at conception is hardly founded on reason. In fact, he says, as a doctor, he "knows" this to be the case. This is pure nonsense.

I'm not suggesting there is any hard and fast definition for human life (although I would propose that the probability of individual viability in earth's atmosphere might be a rational take). I would say, "believe me I KNOW," ought not to fly with anyone sane.

  • It's Middle School

[Read the article: The role of political reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As you said, "Do they ever think about anything without reference to some high school cliche?"

You've given the press gaggle too much credit; you've elevated them from the Middle School mentality and cast them into 10 through 12.

The superficialities that define the crowd following the candidates would be cute in 12 year olds. They are so far removed from reality in every way and beholden to the guidelines that callow thought brings, they couldn't predict rain unless they were sloshing in their shoes.

They are no different than the ninnies who hang onto street lamps during hurricanes to give folks at home the birds-eye view. Maybe they don't realize that the audience is not so secretly waiting for them to get blown away. There is more than a dim chance that they could be that obtuse.

  • Realities

[Read the article: Don't call Oprah a "traitor"!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If the show woman can energize a crowd and motivate battalions of new voters, hooray.

I can't believe all of the small minded waaaambulance posts about Oprah's choice and her public promotion of it.

    And hooray to Obama, too.

The United States never was, or will be, the nation that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution aspires to. Sometimes, the sum of it's parts strives for the realization of such lofty notions, nonetheless. We even arrive at moments of greatness here and there; particularly when we believe we can.

All candidates are afflicted with human error and fallibility. Nobody is a perfect choice for the office; such a being isn't on the planet.

Obama wasn't my first choice. Laughably, he's a little too old boy's school for my taste, but he's basically right minded and can kindle fires in the heart.

We need some of that in this time of darkness and woe.

    I'll vote for that.

  • Freedom

[Read the article: Make your own candidate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Votes are routinely cast away for less concern than your own. This is one idyll we are still permitted.

It is preposterous to suggest that it is YOUR delusional purism that is THE problem.

Those who would scold you for childish delusion, should consider even grimier realities.

There is considerable reason to be influenced by the notion that our balloting is hijacked by corrupt, self interested sorts anyway...conniving, genuinely mean-spirited crooks are to be found who will always lay a thumb on the scale. If they believe they can get away with it, they will. This was the case long before Diebold ops had an in in administration circles.

Vote for who you damned well please. You can't be stopped from doing that by martinettes from any quarter.
