  • The Winner "Stuffs"

[Read the article: Karl Rove's big election-fraud hoax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I note that Mr. Epps neglects to mention yet another chilling statement by made by Mr. Rove at the Republican attorney's convention last year; namely that the winner is the one who "stuffs" the ballot box "best" and "most". The DOJ scandal, as Epps indicates, is just a part of a piece. The architect and his cohorts have no concern about joining a fair contest. They intend to win by whatever means can be utilized. Any method is okay as long as they don't get caught and held responsible for the dirty tricks they happily employ. Of course, Karl was not going to miscalculate with THE math again (as he did in '06) which is why the objective for "loyal" DOJ placement in "critical swing states" became necessary, as well, for '08. He mentioned that at the Republican lawyers convention, too.

  • No Impeachment Because?!?

[Read the article: Why Bush hasn't been impeached]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The MSM AND the congress pander the drivel about impeachment being a madcap pursuit. How the government would come to a grinding halt and all of that... I'd be inclined to think it would be clattering along full speed and preventing the gutting of the constitution, the sacrifice of our military, the slaughter of Iraqi's, the draining of the treasury. Just putting the brakes on outrageous business as usual couldn't fail to aid the country.

  • We Haven't Got a Clue

[Read the article: The truth about cat and dog food]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We're clueless about the ingredients that come in any can or bag or box. We are so far away from the local farmers and producers it's a laugh. We have to TRUST that everybody is doing a stand up job all along the way or skip consuming it.

Everyone is zipping around trying to make a buck and too tired to cook for their families let alone their pets. Even if they did a job from scratch, who's to say THAT'S square.

It gets down to re-ordering priorities. Oh, that pesky business.

  • Heroes

[Read the article: Attacks on civilians, torture and lawless detentions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It will take nothing short of heroic effort to shake the delusion out of the collective eye. It wouldn't appear that their are any of those in the current crop of politicians.

In reading these recent pieces by GG, I was even drawn away by the thought that a good percentage of people still think Judy Miller went to jail to defend the loftier code of journalism!!!

Some sort of elevated education has to bring about a paradigm shift like a hurricane or we're in incredibly deep shit.

So much ninny drivel even in these comments from well informed readers.

What ever gave anybody the idea that the United States was an impermeable territory in perpetuity? There's plenty of evidence to suggest our government hasn't acted with an eye toward possible repercussions for our "pre-emptive" hostilities around the globe; Iraq simply being the latest and most blatantly ridiculous of those.

Let's pretend that global warming is just a Godsend, and there's nothing to the theory of evolution, and we should keep buying SUV's because of the bargain prices. That ought to get us somewhere.

We need to move like lightning in new directions and still, we'll be ill prepared for the inevitable.

  • Not So

[Read the article: Attacks on civilians, torture and lawless detentions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The US has not stated they'd use nuclear weapons first in a conflict since they were used in WWII

    -- Lynx

You ever hear of Don Rumsfeld? One of the many names that leap to mind. Do you know where the phrase "limited nuclear warfare" was coined and why?

  • Jethro W.

[Read the article: Bush on Karl Rove and America's soul]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    "There has been plenty of...hearings,...statements..."

    "...wrongdoing done..."

The guy has a breathtaking talent for mangling communication in general.

  • America is Everybody

[Read the article: America is not Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm not so sure the religious right is as damaging as Bush/Cheney/Rove; they don't necessarily equate in actuality.

All people of all nations are this nation. Is there a place that doesn't have a representative on U.S. turf? That cornball everybody equal thing, I guess...

Bush is, on the other hand, pretty parochial. Who knows where he comes from (perhaps the land where only AMERICANS are equal)? Was it Molly Ivins who wondered what it must be like to be the only sprig from a nor'eastern family with a southern accent?

  • 1.2 to 1.5 MILLION Iraqi Refugees

[Read the article: How Bush's war bolstered Syria]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Syria has the largest number of Iraqi refugees. This is like emptying a major city in 5 years. How many are in Iran? Jordan? Lebanon? Elsewhere? Oh, we're raking in the hearts and minds in countless numbers.

This has "bolstered" every whack-job authoritarian leader on the globe. If a gang can pull these cheap tricks off in a supposedly transparent government of a republic, well, hell!!! Why wouldn't they all go for broke?

    Madness.

Man, are we going to eat this.

  • Pop

[Read the article: Fred Thompson, "tough guy" and "folksy cultural conservative"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Fred Thompson is pandering exactly what most people want, the Big Daddy image. (There's a sort of resemblance between Fred and Burl Ives in that you were supposed to think there was something cool about the guy singing "On the Tail of the Comet Kahoutek" and ignore that gnawing creepy feeling.) The whole idea is to have Pa fix everthang. If the patriarch handles business everyone else can go back out and play.

Look at little kids Matthews and Fineman giggle. Isn't it cute?

  • Gas

[Read the article: Why is "Sgt. Pepper" so overhyped?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This article could be replaced by a fart.

I rarely dive in to the Beatles fray and was amazed by the screamers of my day, but this artless piece is laughable.

It's probably the most aimless mess I've ever encountered at Salon. I thought I was reading a transcript of Entertainment Tonight.

I was particularly amused by the speculation about who should be dead; can't have a music review without that.
