male insecurity -- the next generation

Since the advent of the lad mags, say about 10 years ago and accepted popularity within the past 5-6 years, the real watershed moment of mass male insecurity will show up in the next generation.

Certainly it's easier for men to deal with the male model given prevailing sexism...if he doesn't buy into being an object, but that might be too late.

Any way, if you talk to the male teens of today, the super good looking male model isn't the BIG problem...it's the impossibly large male "models" they see on internet porn.

I have a friend with a teenage step-son and the information relayed to me is that expectations aren't just having metrosexual good looks and grooming but also to have a big package.

This really hasn't changed over time except of course the sheer media involved.

Imagine that, millions of 15 y.o. boys worrying about how big IT is right along side all those 15 y.o. girls worrying about they're pretty/skinny enough. I guess that's equity or something.

well written article...

My guess is that Michelle Obama wears the pants in the family...and Barack knows this and is a better man for it.

A lot of what was written is spot on. The thing is, there's no way on earth BO would have run if his wife didn't check off on it. From what I can guess from what little is known, it was a mutual decision, made in a modern marriage.

Any way, MO is still young. Perhaps she'll run for senate or POTUS. She's more then qualified and I'd vote for her. The question of course is, does she want to. Whatever she decides to do, my guess is it will be her decision.

If the question is "having it all", well tough question. From what I can tell "it" and "all" are subjective and varies according to the personal.

Original article: Obama's debt to Howard Dean

Thank you Howard Dean

For playing the whole field and for setting it all up.

Hopefully Howard Dean will become Secretary of Health and Human Services and use the same open field pursuit while tackling universal health coverage.

With a little luck Dean could become this country's Tommy Douglas...the man who brought universal coverage to Canada.

Send Joey Leibs down the river with the rest of the GOP

No he doesn't need concrete boots but he should be paid back, big time. It's not so much his endorsement of McCain but his total and complete duplicitousness and weaselly behavior.

the new "broun shirts"

My god, Rep. Paul Broun is a out and out nazi and unpatriotic to boot. Send him down the river with the rest of the GOP.

Do it for history if for no other reason

Even as the U.S. is about as ahistoric as it gets, the Obama administration needs to move forward on gathering information, forming a commission and getting everything possible on the books.

They need to do this for future historians, legal scholars and the country.

Bush and co. might not do time but the least we should know his crimes, how he did it and to some degree why. We'll be better off if we do.

It's a positive thing for young girls to have role models

But Sarah Palin's policy positions (of the extreme right fundamentalist) aren't good for women in the long run.

Sure she supports the young ones...as long as they turn out to fascist spokesmodels like her.

Getting warm and fuzzy for the hockey mom that spews out lies (palling around with terrorist, a socialist) is very short sighted and hurting yourself. It's like voting for John McCain, even as it's against self-interest.

Her hair is totally rogue-y

Any way, without anyone (of sense) to prop her up, she's going to self destruct or be relegated a puppet for eternity. The signs of confusion are all there.

Oh well, I betcha First Dude Todd and even jerk-wad Perry like her hair that way. It has "fuck me hard" written all over it.

Nice reconnaissance work, honest question, reasonable political thinking...and yet I object to the complete criminality of the GOP and the clowns who run it

The list is long that shows the complete and utter failure of GOP rule and their effort to destroy government: two wars, no WMDs, tens of thousands killed, the worse economy since the great depression, run away spending, the largest deficit EVER, profiteering, destruction of constitutional rights...yada, yada, yada...AND most fo all the criminality behind the whole muck.

These three pundits, consultants, ass lickers, bottom feeders might not be the criminals themselves but they're pimping for them.

It's good to know what these idiots are thinking but they should be sent down the river with the rest of the GOP thugs and brown shirts. These clowns and the rest of the GOP should never see the light of day again.

p.s. I'm pulling for a Romney-Palin ticket in '12. Mitt will have to defend his Mormonism and ultimately Palin will knife him in the back like a dead moose.

The GOP are a bunch of whiners armed with hate and bad karma

Bipartisanship will only come about if the GOP act like adults and human beings. Until then, I'm afraid the only way to react, like in situations like this, is kick them to the curb and beat them down -- if not literally then certainly a consistent and brutal brow beating until the end of time. Bunch of nazis.

Original article: The Obamas on "60 Minutes"

What struck me was when Kroft asked Obama what he was reading

Early on in the interview, Kroft asked Obama what he was reading and Obama had a freakin' answer, a good answer. Imagine that, a president that reads! Right then I knew the presidency and country had turned a corner.

Beyond that, Barack and Michelle Obama's direct, smart and common sense answers were simply stunning.
