Original article: Movement toward Obama

Is this for real?

Yes, if you exclude certain states from the polling, you will get different results. So fucking what? What you fail to realize is that the candidate who starts with California, New York and Illinois (among other safe Dem states) needs to win fewer of the battlegrounds than the one who starts with Texas (among other safe GOP states). A narrow win in some subset of disputed states is not enough if your base isn't as big as the other guy's.

Schaller is getting to be as big of a joke as Palin. The Battleground polls exist solely to make this appear more of a race than it's actually become--they tell us nothing. Smart people can figure that out by themselves.

Original article: NRCC cuts off Bachmann

I'm just sorry...

...that Patty Wetterling couldn't have been the one to take her down.

Seriously, that district has issues. They could have been represented by a woman who has devoted half her life to protecting children from sexual predators, and they chose this insane bitch instead.

Original article: Buh-bye, Bratz?

This briefly made me angry...

...and then, what the fuck. Did the creator not have to take a course on intellectual property at Mattel like I did at my company? When you produce something while under their employ, it is their property unless you buy it back. Especially if you show it to them so they can prove it.

The creator is an idiot. If his new company was duped, they should sue him for the revenue lost. But if they knew what he was doing and went along anyway, bankruptcy is what they deserve--though the cost to the employees is horrible, particularly right now.

Original article: I Like to Watch

Huh?

Wish they'd offed Gaeta instead. He's been moping around without anything to do for a whole season.

Except for that whole sequence where his leg was amputated, and the webisodes that implied he was about to do something big in the final episodes. Dude, please.

I can't agree with Heather's assessment either. We need these revelations to come less quickly, so that they feel a little more weighty and important. Just like in real life, right? When everyone's only dream is simultaneously dashed, they ration out their emotional devastation.

Job training

Camille, you might think that you have to keep churning out stupid, stupid tripe about issues that are far beyond your ability to comprehend. It's not so! There's still hope for even the dumbest among us to become useful members of society. You might not be spry enough to dig ditches, but there are surely telephones to sanitize.

I think we're overreacting just a smidge.

How many people are aware of this chatter and don't realize it's a smear campaign? About as many as attended the tea parties, I'd wager.

Glenn's right.

Who on earth thinks Torsella would have hurt Specter in a three-way race? He'd have split the opposition with Sestak.

Assuming Sestak is in, this is in fact excellent news for those who want to see Specter go down. Bad analysis.

I have my doubts.

I think there might be some people in the FBI, or higher up, who would prefer that von Brunn go down in history as as sick a freak as possible. All the better to argue that outside influences were completely irrelevant to what he did.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, fine. But how does an octogenarian find kiddie porn when my mom, twenty years younger, can't find the "Empty Trash" menu item?

Did I miss something, or...

...have you even *spoken* to the guy?

Maybe he didn't realize he was making noise because the last tenants weren't bothered. Maybe he's got a clumsy houseguest. Maybe the earplugs will kick in after a few more tries. Maybe, in short, this is a temporary and/or easily remedied situation. Regardless, "break the lease" is a remedy so premature and extreme that it's absurd.

Original article: My evil iPhone

Can't you get a Livejournal account or something for this crap?

I sincerely hope that you find a phone that's right for you, but why do poor unsuspecting Salon readers have to be there while you vent your spleen?

Articles like these are kind of ridiculous. Shouldn't we trust the market at least enough to weed out products if they're actually total objective crap? No, apparently the iPhone dissenters have to publish Emperor's New Clothes pieces that seem targeted less at the product than at people who like it.

Wow, poor choice of venue.

Not even necessary to to read Cary's answer on this. A question on business etiquette? Jesus. Cary has his strong points, but I don't think he can even grasp what your problem is here, let alone give practical advice.

"Cockblocking" is an interesting metaphor, because it's pretty much an imaginary phenomenon even when taken literally--it's something you watch happening with feigned helplessness because you don't quite have the guts to fend it off. How is he "doing your job"? Is he coming up with better ideas at a faster pace? You can hardly complain about that. Or is he working so hard and so fast you find that things are taken off your plate before you can get to them? You can't complain about that either.

You know what the answer is. If you want to be in his position someday, step up your game and start working longer hours and brainstorming about how to be more effective in your time there. If you're content to stay in your position, you're probably fine given your history with the company (unless there's a subtext about impending layoffs you're not sharing).

What an odd little essay.

Not about Aniston, but about how we feel about her. Maybe that kind of thing is a valid exercise for a few celebs who are deeply loved/hated/respected, but Jennifer Aniston? Surely the news day wasn't that slow.
