My 12 year old son was first exposed to "Guitar Hero" by my brother who had the game at his house. We got him a copy for Christmas soon afterwards. A few months later, he expressed an interest in getting a real guitar and learning to play. I don't think that guitar hero really prepares a child to play the guitar but it may inspire them to try it out. The guitar runs in my family - I play and my father plays, but my son never expressed any interest prior to getting Guitar Hero.
If no one liked this movie reviewers like this would be singing it's praises. As soon as the rabble enjoy something, there must be something wrong with it.
I've noticed this is a theme with miss Zacharek.
I'm sick to death of hearing about the 60's... Part of the reason for the polarization of politics in the here and now is that our boomer politicians won't let go and are still fighting the same stupid battles and making the same tired old arguments... We need our elders to start focusing on the here and now and stop reminicing about the damned 60's. I think a lot of good came out of the 60's, but I agree that it's run it's course and is mainly just a consumer driven myth at this point. It's over... GET OVER IT!
when the "elites" "liberals" "city-dwellers" or whatever criticize the ill-informed voting patterns of the parts of the country that gave us 8 years of hell under George Bush and 8 years of hell under Reagan, we are shaouted down by the media, denounced by politicians, and hauled through the mud? Why is it unfashionable to be educated, metropolitan, and worldly? I'm sorry, but yes, it's true - uneducated rural people have to be "extra-convinced" to vote for a black man... any little mistake and it's over for him with the "rubes" as you put it? What does this tell you? I am so sick and tired of this I'd like to have a beer with him politics bull that my head just wants to explode. If the "gods, guns, and gays" crowd is so smart, then why are we in the situation we find ourselves in now? Please answer that for me.
Exactly the point I was trying to get across... In most cultures, it is NOT considered a badge of honor to be uneducated. the urban "elites" tend towards more progressive thought. Again - I'm not sure why the "heartland" should get more of a say than anybody else... whay are they the heart and soul of America? Last time I looked around, it was the coasters ahow were subsidizing the middle of America with our tax dollars... Man this crap irritates me. Be uneducated and make stupid decisions in the voting booth all you want - just don't gripe when someone calls you out on it.
...Hillary Clinton is PERFECT. If you want to at least maintain the illusion of being a balanced voice - could we at least have some review of what's wrong with Billary's campaign as well????
...paying to hear right wing talking points from a supposedly left leaning rag... oh well - I'm not renewing next year. I'll vote with my wallet on this one.

I will not be renewing my subscription to Salon next year. Joan Walsh has flushed this site down the toilet.
How can anyone in their right mind think we need to lower the price of gas? The fundamental issue is that gas should be more expensive - it will discourage use of a finite natural resource that also happens to be the source of many of our foriegn policy woes as well... Eurpoe has been paying 5 dollar or so a gallon for years - and they get by just fine. I guess more people might consider (shock, horror) riding a bus, or a train to work. Or car pooling... Or not buying another 5 miles to the gallon Hummer. Maybe compact cars will come back with a vengeance (thank god)... I'm sick of seeing your grill in my rearview mirror.
Honestly, what a crock - why don;t you just call this Hillary Magazine fer cryin out loud.
...Why is it necessary for Obama to be gracious and commend Hillary when Hillary has not had one nice thing to say about him? I have yet to hear her once congratulate him on a vitory in any state, or aknowledge that he would make a terrific president - the closest she comes is "he'd be better than McCain". I am sick and tired of hearing what Obama "must do" while everyone tiptoes around HRC like she's some kind of babe in the woods who must be coddled or she'll have a temper tantrum and ruin the general election. Let's face it, if she screws up Obama's chances in the general, her politcal career (in the democratic party) is toast. Once again Joan - your complete and total bias is showing...
I'd like to hear what HRC "must do" to win back the young, black voters, and the educated please.
I also live in the Philly Burbs...
We live on a nice circle with 2 basketball nets in close proximity to our house... I can hear the tweens playing basketball for a couple hours a night during the summer - it can get a little old, but I've learned to tune it out...
This aversion to other people and their noise is getting unhealthy in our society - everyone wants to live in a bubble and pretend others don't exist. This is why people are so selfish and snobby.
My answer? Live and let live - who knows what you do to annoy your neighbors?
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
