Potential Claustrophobia
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The seat design seems interesting, except for the "fixed cocoon" idea. Not to be overly critical but a fixed cocoon sonds like a recipe for claustrophobia. Otherwise it's brilliant.

Same old sh*t
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Once again Patrick, you never fail to tell us all how the Boeing 747 is heaven, utopia, and the best piece of design since the conception of the first human being, all rolled in to one,and as an added bonus, it actually flies! Then you proceed to tell us exactly why, for the 100th time, that the Airbus A380 is is the most hideous thing ever in existence and "justify" it with an amazingly overused quote from one Airbus engineer that is probabably completely out of context. I would be interested to know where you found it. You also unfailingly mention as another proof of the A380's ugliness is the A318/19/20/21 which also Airbus' best selling product. I will not deny, and so will many other people, that the A380 and A320 are not the most glamorous planes out there but neither is the 747. Also...
I hate to break it to you, Patrick, but there are actually other planes in existence besides the A380 and the 747. What about the A330? I've read you column fo a while and do not remember any times I have red about that particular jet in your column. Or how many people know that Airbus has made a turboprop ( the A400M )? What about the A350 and Airbus' descision to deviate from their traditional 2-4-2 abreast layout to 3-3-3 on single deck widebodies? I know that's not news anymore, but to someone who likes critiqing cabins I think that a column on the pros and cons of seating layouts would be way more interesting than a monthly reminder on why the 747 is better than the A380. I think you're just mad because the Europeans bested Boeing and your precious 747.

A bit more
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sorry about the posting above, but really, its getting old. However it was nice to hear about some othe odd planes, but personally I've always thought the L-1011 looked a lot worse than the DC-10.

Suvarnabhumi looks a lot like Munich
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Munich's Franz Joseph Strauss (MUC) looks a lot like Suvarnabhumi. The Check-in counters in Terminal 2 in Munich look uncannily similar to the ones at Suvarnabhumi.

Couldn't find any good pictures of the check in counters, but its better to see it yourself. Go there, be amazed and don't forget to see Munich too.
MUC also forfeited its maglev rail link to the Hauptbahnhof which would have taken 10 minutes to get to the city center. Currently people are now forced to take the a 30 min ride on the S-Bahn. Not that I'm complaining, IAH, my hometown airpor, like many american airports fails to have any mass transit links. For more info on MUC:

Oh and I forgot
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Are the touch screens on Emirates functional? I had to practically hit the screen on Air France for it to register that i wanted it to play a movie?

And finally the question that nobody has asked before...
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Patrick Smith if you actually managed to get a case of syringes and sedative on board an airplane would you really proceed to give every baby on board a shot? Why does everybody care so much about this though? So there's a crying baby on board, suck it up. You'll survive. Its a fraction of your life. On most non-american airlines for longer flights they supply earplugs. If the above sentence does not apply, here's a truly novel idea. Bring your own earplugs! Its a lot cheaper than noise cancelling headphones which don't work for babies anyway. And if earplugs are too uncomftortable for your precious sensitive ears then sit in the bathroom and continuously flush the toilet of something like that so you you don't go deaf from that horrid whining of those horrible little trolls, and that I may remind you that you were one one of them. Its rediculous and I wish every poor parent who feels insulted or every frequent flier whose blood pressure has been driven up would just drop the rediculous subject. I read those letters with disgust and think 'what really makes me think anoyne cares about how mistreated they are, them and their poor misunderstood children or how they missed out on three hours of sleep. The Pilot however many times he has stated he dislikes screaming babies on aiplanes that is all he has said. Others are only wasting their time writing hopelessly long and tedious anecdotes about how... ...and I'll shut up now. Thank You

Go Arounds are supposed to be scary?
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I was on a flight landing in frankfurt and it perfomed a go around. It was a refreshing break from mundane, flat flying. The only time I would be worried is if I was flying into Khatmadu on the sierra approach pattern after a missed approach; two planes have already done that. Is full Power ever applied for go-arounds? The engines on the A300 I was flying on a few years ago seemed like they were working much harder then than on the flight's takeoff.
