Any Politician Mixed Record
[Read the article: FactCheck.org: Obama statement "a little too slick"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Uncle Fester,
"Obama is a politician. Everyone here understands that... Like any politician, or any other person on Earth, he's going to have a mixed record...If you want to apply a higher standard to discredit Obama, go ahead. But maybe that standard should be applied across the board."
I think that you hit on something here that others may be trying to articulate about "the problem." When Obama says he is the ONLY candidate to not... he is implying that all the others do. Many people hear this implication and then repeat not the implication as fact. Therefore huge numbers of people are saying that Hillary Clinton or McCain take this money which would not be true. This is a rhetorical device meant to sway people and it does. This is something Obama is brilliant at and that is not meant as an insult. There is an art of Rhetoric which he has mastered. It is also a passive aggressive, manipulative technique to get other people to then repeat the implication giving the originator plausible deniability. This is something else Obama has proven very good at.
When you say he has a mixed record like any one else on earth you are absolutely correct. Of course, we are all human. What I believe makes people uneasy, or angry, or sarcastic, or mean spirited is not because they want to hold Obama to a higher standard, it is because Obama supporters claim that higher standard for him, not as a standard but as a fact.
At the same time they consistently attack Clinton for one or another infraction of those high standards they believe it is fine for Obama to employ. It is fine and necessary for Obama to use political expediency because he has to win and this is how its done. It is evil for Clinton to employ these same practices. I think this double standard coupled with the glee of BHO supporters in their attacks on and distortions about HRC is what has frustrated Clinton supporters into enjoying any time an example of the tricks that they see Obama use comes to the attention of the media.Whew, that was a complicated sentence, hope it made sense.
There are excuses and rationalizations for every thing that comes out that is not the most flattering toward Obama, no matter how minor, often followed by an attack on Clinton as somehow being worse because she did--- whatever, This is a familiar Republican tactic. No matter what the idiot king has done there are people pointing the finger shouting "Bu Bu But Bill did..." or "Well, what about Clinton..." This is a distraction from the actual point. It is a fallacious argument as is the Obama pointing out to his high moral ground of not taking something that in fact no one can take.
that being said I think the point of factchecker is reporting the facts not attacking Obama himself or attempting to tear him down.
