Are out-of-state endorsements a recent phenomenon?

Maybe I've had a major failure in the old memory bank, but I don't recall many - if any - out-of-state endorsements in primaries for either party.

I guess I hope DeMint's endorsement helps Rubio - since, even though the thought of Rubio in the Senate scares and disgusts me, he'd be easier to beat than Crist - but mostly I feel like somebody needs to ask DeMint, Cornyn, and McConnell just who the hell they think they are to stick their noses into Florida politics.

Same goes for the Dems - unless there's a David Duke to defeat, stay away from other states' primaries.

--------------------------------

Also, it's true that "Crist...upset many in the GOP when he broke from party ranks to support President Obama’s stimulus plan." It's also true that the GOP-run Florida Legislature was only too happy to use a few billion dollars of that stimulus money to balance a state budget severely underfunded thanks to the policies of Marco Rubio, the infamous "Jeb!", and Charlie Crist.

@ kickstarts and Mykeru

kickstarts, you're right that we don't really know if Ahmadinejad won, lost, or should be in a runoff. But consider the following.

From the article: "...Khamenei said that the 11 million vote differential between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi indicates that there was no voter fraud."

They know it was 11 million votes apart because they took nearly 3 hours to count them all, by hand, before announcing the results.

------------------------

Mykeru, here's (or click on my sig) a representation of your statement about the bottle (if you don't look at it today, just find the June 19 cartoon):

If it doesn't involve misuse of public or campaign money,

why should anyone other than family and friends give a damn?

Happy Father's Day, kids!

Not to mention Mom.

Original article: Quote of the morning

Good catch, Alex.

I'm always here to give you grief (usually about coverage of a certain governor) so I should praise you when you do good. Once in awhile, anyway.

I'm not going to donate any money to [DeMented/DimWit/other juvenile riff on his name] but I'm very tempted to give $17.87.

@ Ellyllon (but off-topic)

"...an International Extra-Marital Dating Service for Hang-dog faced politicians!"

If such a thing exists and they want to diversify their client list, they could include a certain hang-dog faced Hung gigolo who seems to have absorbed Salon.

I understand Salon's need for revenue - and I'm not giving them any - but good grief! I thought I was being redirected to the HBO home page...or maybe NPR's, since I'm sure that Hung will be the next Greatest And Most Important TV Series Ever and as such will require at least one hour a week of commentary on Fresh Air, Schlock Of The Nation, etc.

Pot, kettle

"Bill Kristol ... wrote on his magazine's blog, '... the article is full of dubious claims, and is dependent on self-serving stories provided on background ...'"

Sounds like an accurate description of Kristol's entire body of work.

"Iquiterod" - brilliant!

Thanks to everyone for some great comments.

@ mjlasvegas, re "Was That Still Going On?"

I thought you were talking about Michael Jackson's funeral.

The comments are enjoyable, but let's look at a calendar

Today is July 9, 2009. I know this is the era of perpetual campaigns, but it's about two and a half years until the first primary.

Isn't it just a little premature to be handicapping make-believe primaries?

Original article: Walter Cronkite dies

RIP "Uncle Walter"

Thanks to all of you for your posts, especially the references to the Apollo missions.

I remember reading that, when asked what was important for a journalist to have, Cronkite replied "Integrity. Once you can fake that, you've got it made."

"I don't think Palin has ... the discipline to hit the books and newspapers every day."

Whaddaya mean? As she told Katie Couric, she already reads "all of them".

Original article: MoDo unfairly slaps Hillary

@ haaaley, and Douglas Moran

"...It's unfortunate, because HRC's work (and that of other women) is only hampered by this type of attitude. Dowd: it's not as if your sexist criticism makes your work any easier."

-- haaaley Wednesday, August 12, 2009 08:52 AM

Sorry haaaley, but you're wrong. Dowd and the rest of the punditocracy are in a parallel bizarro universe where facts, complexity, past accuracy, and so on just don't matter (think Bill Kristol). Her "work" couldn't be any easier.

"...Now she can indulge her bizarre Clinton hate and obsession over their marriage to her heart's content.

What a maroon."

-- Douglas Moran Wednesday, August 12, 2009 10:12 AM

Douglas, I only copied part of your post but the entire thing was excellent. You, sir, are no moran.

(sorry)

@ Timothy3

Maybe the word you were looking for is "ignorance" - though that is not necessarily a sin.

But I believe "willful ignorance" is - and it may be the biggest, most commonly committed sin in this country.

1. Watch Rachel Maddow's show; 2. @hal_barad

The last few nights (and probably at her web site, but I haven't checked there yet) she's shown how grassroots jes' folks like former Congressscum Tom Delay and pharmacy execs.

(You know, the sort of thing that the Liberal Media, or for that matter anyone that's supposed to be a journalist covering health care, should be doing.)

And hal_barad: as Maddow has said, Delay and others have every right to voice/lobby/shout their opinions, but they should be upfront about it and not hide behind "grassroots" front groups.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 03:52 PM

@ me: Oops! The dangers of multitasking...

What I meant to say was that Delay and such are who's really running groups that purport to be "grassroots".

"I had 3 secretaries all my career"

Very impressive. What career path provides 3 secretaries to someone in an entry-level position?

@ liberty aint free

"History will show we went into Iraq to draw the Al Queda war there in a more strategic and winnable location."

That worked well.

"We have been safe for the past 8 years"

You've got to wait 11 more days before you can say that - actually, a few weeks longer if you care to remember the anthrax mailings.

Thursday, September 10, 2009 09:14 AM

Gotta love the setting!

Did the GOP pick the location that wannabe-Lord Boustany spoke from: the Strom Thurmond Room?
