  • Joe ...

    [Read the article: "Ugly choices" in Iraq -- but after the election is over]

    (1) Please explain how the escalation chaos, violence, and political impotence in Iraq is "progress" on the road to "victory." Please explain what what "victory" in Iraq is. Please explain, step by step, how this victory will be won.

    (2) If the administration put forth a plan or strategy that would (a) secure the borders, (b) bring an end to the violence, (c) establish and stabilize a secular democracy, (d) and leave the Iraqis capable of policing and defending themselves, then the Democrats and Liberals (not all the same) would at least discuss it. To NOT put forth a plan on the grounds that it will be criticized is both cowardice and bad faith. Of course, the assumption that all Liberals everywhere hate America, hate Freedom, and love the jihadists is not only dead, dead wrong, it's another example of bad faith.

    (3) You accuse Salon of propagandizing for the enemy. Cite some specifics: What are the factual fabrications? What are the willful distortions? Where are the calls to join the jihad? Take a few weeks to do some research if need be, get your citations in order, proofread and edit it for logical fallacies, and post link to your blog. If you don't have a blog, sign up for one. It's easy.

    (4) Liberal plans for Iraq? I don't speak for all Liberals, but I have three words for you: Cut. And. Run. I'm not afraid to say it. Iraq is lost unless you propose re-invading the country with 200,000 American conscripts, imposing martial law in Iraq, launching massive military operations to conquer whole of the country from border to border, region by region, city by city, neighborhood by neighborhood, creating massive prison camps for enemy fighters (or suspected enemy fighters), and rebuilding the whole nation from the rubble up like we did with Germany and Japan, all of which will cost tens of thousands of American lives, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives, and trillions of dollars. And in the end, like Japan, Germany, and South Korea, we can expect our troops to be there in perpetuity. (Why not? we already have built and are still building permanent bases there). Now do you have the will to do this? Do your fellow conservatives?

    No? Then please refer back to #1.

    now we have to hear all over again about how the civilians who authorized the torture, the officers who ordered it, and the CIA agents who executed it are victims of a conspiracy of Evil Secularist Liberals who are following the orders of the religious fanatic Osama bin Laden.

    Well, line them up next to Ann Coulter, Augusto Pinochet, Reza Shah, Pervez Musharraf, and King Abdullah and all the war criminals that would have voted repub if they had been allowed.

    Quite the party you have there.

    >Salon Propaganda Examples...

    >Salon itself.

    >The rest of you refuse to see it because you

    >believe it all.

    The former response is akin to a student saying that pages 1-565 of Moby Dick demonstrate man's inhumainty toward man. It's meaningless. As for the latter statement, if you're trying to prove your point and persuade others to adopt your viewpoint, you need examples and logic. You should know this. Your high school history and English teachers taught you better!

    >Just look at the headline above.

    Okay: "'Ugly choices' in Iraq -- but after the election is over" ... so you've given an example, but you haven't explained how its propagandistic. D+ and I'm being generous.

    Here's a link: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Propaganda to a Web site providing a standard definition of propaganda, types of propaganda, rhetorical strategies favored by propagandists, as well as analysis of historical examples. Maybe now you can get crackin' on that analysis of Salon!

    >I sure don't see any negative articles about the

    >people killing our soldiers.

    You have to be told that it's bad? You're not sure that the insurgents are killers? That the death squads are vile? Where's your moral compass?

    >And spare me the argument that I can't have an >opinion unless I'm fighting in Iraq.

    I'm with you here, Joe. You can have any opinion you want on any topic you choose. I guess people are just wondering that if we are indeed engaged in the ideological struggle of the 21st century, a clash of civilizations, and facing the total collapse and downfall Western Civilization at the hands of the swarthy Muhammadean hordes, then why aren't you jumping into the breach, throwing your blood, flesh, and faith on the line like Baldwin at Montgisard?

    Now what about the progress in Iraq and the Secret Conservative Master Plan for Victory? C'mon! You're the "party of principles" the "party of ideas"! Let's see some!

    * WAR IS PEACE

    * FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

    * IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

    Have not, nor have every been at war with Eastasia. Eastasia has been, is, and will forever be our ally. Eurasia has been, is, and forever will be our enemy.

    Down with Goldstein! Down with the Brotherhood! They said "Stay the course!"

    [Read the article: Kerry, Kennedy pony up for 2006]
    [Read more letters about this article: Here]

    According to the Washington Post, Kerry has already given $1,000,000 to various Democratic candidates, all of them anti-war vets.

    As for Hillary Clinton and what she would need all that money for *this* election, I have no idea. I mean, NY1 gave her $100,000 and then disallowed the Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins from the debate because he didn't have $500,000 in his war chest. Since her liberal competition has been hobbled, maybe she should hip some of that money to other Dems.

    But then again, Hillary will do what's best for Hillary. She'll take money from anyone she can and she'll give it to anyone she pleases. With such an ethos, I don't know why the Republicans hate her so much. They must not like the competition either.
