We are foolish to expect the Federal government to behave honorably

It's time to consider splitting up the Union into economic areas of interest and reducing the Federal government's powers to, say, running the Postal Service.

California and the Southwest, The Northwest, Texas, the Plains States, the Northeast, the South. Establish regional governments. No revolution necessary -- let's accept the fact that the Federal government is a kind of parasitic organism which does not represent anyone's best interests save their own.

So rather than waiting for Nancy Pelosi to pull her head out of her butt and put impeachment on the table (Ex-Presidents can be impeached even after they're out of office) or waiting for the Feds to figure out that, yup, torture is A) obscene B) un-American LET'S JUST GET RID OF THEM ALL. It'll be like removing a cancer.

DC can remain as a wasteland with a lot of lost suits and lobbyists, wondering what became of their wonderful scam.

@KevinC -- gold is meant to preserve wealth

Let's say hypothetically that the Fed (every bit as Federal as Federal Express, mind you) decided to print a ton of new money backed by air, same as it always does, and then LOAN it to the US Treasury (standard operating procedure).

Let's say the Fed planned on printing so much new money that your present paper US dollars would be reduced in value by fifteen times, their value diluted 15:1.

Gold looks pretty darn good all of a sudden, doesn't it?

Gold is not to make you rich, gold is to protect what wealth you have left. Gold has intrinsic value, a stack of paper which supposedly represents money, does not. Any questions?

Original article: Don't pooh-pooh populism

A trend? A fad?

People deserve what the Constitution outlined. How many "elite" members of society are there? Why not kill them off one by one until they get the message? We are not sheep.

People deserve to live their lives free of fear and manipulation by central governments with bizarre agendas -- overseas expeditions to steal resources, et cetera. Liberty and justice for all. Or is that phrase just an in-joke among the elite which I don't understand?

The disappointment and anger as Obama changes nothing, fixes nothing, will be considerable. "Change we can believe in"? Why can we not ever get a President who can do something right? Something more than changing what we call the illegally-held prisoners in our never-never land secret prisons off shore?

I gather that when a politician arises who looks as if they may well try and change something, they end up like Huey Long or like Paul Wellstone. If they can't be corrupted, they are killed. When did you last hear of a fascistic politician dying in a one-car accident or sudden heart attack?

What percentage of the population is the "elite"? How many bullets and sharp knives would it take to do them in? Perhaps that's the more realistic approach, since they refuse to accept popular change.

A good interim step would be to return power to the States and drain it from the Federal government. The Feds are just shot through and through with corruption. It's not a fixable situation. If that can't be accomplished, why not kill them all and build something better?

It's a great idea

Of course, the evil Federal government cannot stand to see any of its slave states leave the "Union," so they may well decide to slaughter hundreds of thousands like they did in the "Civil War" which kid's history books paint as some kind of conflict to free the slaves.

The Confederacy did nothing wrong nor illegal. But the "Union" came after it and dragged it back.

Why NOT secede? I'd love to see California and the southwest do it. The Federal government is an evil, parasitic organism that has no interest in anything other than preserving its power. I'd love to see Washington DC end up like Taiwan, a small island pretending that it still controls the rest of the country.

Ideally with a huge containment wall built around it and every suit trapped inside.

This is pathetic.

Our government, and maybe any government, cannot or will not act ethically. We need to think up something new and not corrupted -- and then have the resolve in place to change again if and when the new arrangement becomes corrupted.

The government as it is ought to be shunned, like the Amish do with an outcast. Without the loyalty of its 50 slave states, Washington DC is a large slum with some museums.

The government has lost its focus and literally cannot be trusted for anything at all. It's not a question of restoring faith, I do not believe that it possible. The government is like some kind of deranged relative who claims to be responsible for you and expects fealty regardless of what it does.

The reality is that they're monstrously insane.

Original article: Mel Gibson's family values

Mel Gibson performed his function

In 2006, when Israel was busily shelling UN observation posts and dropping cluster bombs on Christian population centers, they needed a distraction.

Did this story have legs? Does it still? Is it not just a stupid distraction bread and circuses?

So to follow the Gore 2000 path...

We have to wait until Coleman games his way to the Supremes and then accepts the arbitrary decision of the largely GOP-appointed justices?

Original article: Let war crimes be bygones

No. The perps, including Pelosi and her other enablers, need to be prosecuted

and imprisoned. It's a big deal and it cannot be allowed to sink into the murk of history unlanced.

They knew what they were planning and doing was wrong. The US has prosecuted and executed enemy soldiers for doing what we have done "in the name of liberty."

Drag it out into the sunlight. It might be nice if Obama would actually CLOSE the remaining CIA secret prisons.

Failing to prosecute will enable further atrocities down the line in the exact same way that allowing Nixon to slime his way off the world stage unscathed set the stage for Bush43 and his wrongdoing.

Justice? Is it just a word we like to use?
