[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have DirecTV for their "NFL Sunday Ticket" which allows me to view just about all televised games, which I like. If they didn't have that package, I wouldn't have DirecTV.
Aside from Alton Brown's "Good Eats" show on Food Network, IT'S A FREAKING WASTELAND, there is literally NOTHING to watch, and my memories of VHF/rabbit ear days included at least a few decent old movies shown late at night -- these days it's wall-to-wall infomercials and "paid programming" on a hundred channels.
AppleTV is a beachhead in the same way that Microsoft's XBox and Sony's PS3 are meant to incrementally establish a presence in the living room. The letter writer who suggested the Nintendo Wii is on the money. Nintendo has at least provided some entertainment value with its box.
It will be a happy day when I can order what I want to see a la carte: NFL Network, NFL games and Alton Brown. Period. Not a hundred channels of shit and propaganda.
