  • When will this end?

I heard on MSNBC tonight that over 80% of the population support the SCHIP and that over 70% would support a tax increase to pay for it. Bush doesn't live in the real world. As a President he is willing to bury us in a deficit to destroy another country and then try vainly to rebuild parts of it. All the while the infrastructure of our own country is disintegrating. But that's okay because we will just sell our roads to companies from other countries who then will then be able to impose tolls. What has happened to this country? The quick fix, the under the table contracting to buddies, and all the other things we learn more about every single day is frightening. The lies, the meanness, and the corruption of the right wingers is almost incomprehensible. Where is the compassion of the so-called Christian right? I find nothing Christian in their smug assessment of denying healthcare to children. The support of many Americans to private organizations that pick up some of the slack in helping others could be considered a voluntary tax. Maybe instead of asking us to check on our IRS forms if we want to contribute to election money we could be checking that we'd like $3 to go to SCHIP.

  • I'm dropping out of MoveOn

Like a previous writer I have signed petitions and sent donations when the money was targeted for something I supported and also made calls during the 2006 election. But, this so-called vote was a total sham. I think there were only a couple of days where voting was allowed. Some of my friends never got to their computer before the voting was over. They claim they have over 2,000,000 members or "subscribers" yet the total vote equaled about 240,000 of them. I sent them an "unsubscribe" notice today and in my email to them asked why they thought that any supporter of Clinton would still want to be a part of MoveON. And that my donations would go directly to Democrats I supported rather than to them. They claim that they represent their subscribers but I found it almost impossible in the past to find a place to send them an email expressing my opinions. Only after un-subscribing did they give me a chance.

  • Oh, Joan

Joan, I'm not sure why you referred to the dance on Hillary's grave as starting on January 8. It has gone on for over a year. I used to love watching MSNBC with Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. As Matthews became more and more rude and loud with his Hillary comments I finally (I was slow) realized that these slights to Hillary were very personal. I was astounded that the network would allow him on air. I couldn't believe that someone I held in such esteem, Keith Olbermann, would sit by Matthew's side during debates and primaries. By now I realize that this is what MSNBC is all about. I still keep up with political news through them but I've become more cynical.

However, Joan, while I agree with you about the bias I'm surprised how even you feed into it. You want to defend your observations while using the candidate's talking points. It seems that you soften your article with positive comments toward Obama. In writing about Clinton's win in California, you use it as a teaching point for Obama's organization. You say nothing positive about Clinton's win except in pointing it out as a tactical win. (Not a win of morals, character, strength or the future.) But it was the ending that put your article in perspective. You soften your conclusions by tossing a bone to the "guys" showing them how they can indeed help their candidate.

  • Are you hearing from on high?

[Read the article: What I really wanted to say to Chris Matthews]

How do you know that Barak Obama will be great? Did you get a message from God like George Bush?

Your story reminds me of our governor here in Texas, Rick Perry. He first backed Guiliani and when he dropped out Perry immediately backed Romney. Today he is in the newspapers as totally behind McCain. If Senator Clinton wins the nomination she'll be your third choice.

Your story lacks a sense of realism to me. Couldn't you see from the first that Edwards didn't have a chance? We only heard wonderful words of erasing poverty, but Edwards hadn't made a name for himself of leading any battle besides air time. Your second choice could have been predicted based on your choice of Edwards. You must like the thrill of allusions to great things happening instead of the reality of the slowness and babysteps that change takes.

It is sad when women reject the person who was right beside them in the ditch fighting for the same ideals & fall for the appeal of a candidate who hasn't been there, who can have a sterling character since it has never been tested. Who offers lofty words but has nothing of substance to back it up.

By the way, did you really think Matthews was not going to be loud, arrogant, and biased?
