In GA, not so much

In commercial aviation there are more women working everywhere. Not only on the flight deck but also in air traffic control. At my local airport 3 of the 9 tower controllers, including the manager, are women. A rare thing not too long ago. But when you walk around the hangars at a general aviation aviation airport, it's nothing but boys. Or more accurately, old men. I suppose women are too wise to piss away so much money on a hobby.

BTW, I dig the term aviatrix. Puts me in mind of the golden years of flight with Amelia Earhart and Poncho Barns.

trixtah

I suppose you are correct. In modern usage the term aviatrix probably denotes an inferior aviator. Nevertheless, I like the sound of the word. Must be the hard "X" sound. Kinda like your lobo inspired moniker.

goatees

I am so f@#$%^g sick of assholes with goatees. It's the male equivalent of the tramp stamp (albeit reversible). Why is everything in this country run by ignorant white trash poseurs? When will the madness end??

Original article: Why you should eat fat

Corn Syrup

If there is one cause of the American obesity epidemic it is the industrialization of our food. Vegetable fats have replaced animal fats and corn sugar has replace cane sugar in American foods. Not only does this do us harm, it just doesn't taste as good.

Take the Pepsi challenge. Go to Mexico and bring some American made cola, made with corn syrup, and do a blind taste test with the cane sugar local product. You will be amazed by the difference.

McCain's doom

Here in Arizona McCain ads are running nightly on TV. If he has to spend TV dollars to convince voters in his "home" state, it's all over.

WTF?

This is Salon, right? Why is Fox News advertising here? I thought this was a Reilly, Hannity free zone.

Smug Goatee

Something about those neatly trimmed goatees, surrounding a smirk of unjustified self-satisfaction, just makes me want to punch the wearer's face into jello.

But that's just me.

I have rage issues.

Sadness in AZ

The worst thing about an Obama presidency is that we in AZ will likely lose our Governor, Janet Nepolitano, to the cabinet or, dare we dream, the Supreme Court. That will be a great thing for the nation but a return to the dark ages for Arizona when Jan Brewer becomes Governor.

I want my PBS

As other commentators have pointed out, PBS has been terribly Discoverychannleized. However, Nova and Frontline are still the best things American TV has to offer. As long as those programs are produced I will send in my checks and get my tote bags. They have been my Tuesday night ritual since high school.

"The only job they offer...

...is to keep you off the dock". I really dig the version sung by the children's choir. But I digress.

ALPA and the other pilot unions are not serving you. Witness the ongoing battle between the East Coast and West Coast pilots as a result of the America West/US Airways merger. While the competing unions and members tear into each other over "the numbers", management can sit back and roll their fingers together muttering "excellent" like Mr. Burns.

The airline industry changed dramatically after deregulation but the unions are still stuck in the '60's business model. As a dues paying member, you should demand better representation.

Nukes

Yes, the United States is the only nation that has used nuclear weapons in war. And there is fierce debate over whether they were necessary to end WWII. But if we had not got there first, another actor would have. That genie was well out of the bottle in 1945 and he's not going back.

Original article: Flight 447's perfect storm

@reallynow

It was a European made aircraft flown by a French carrier between Rio and Paris with only two Americans on-board. But in your world it's an unclaimed terrorist attack and is being covered up by the MSM so as not to embarrass Barack Obama.

Really now...

Where do you folks come up with this stuff?

"Your refusal to believe it is simply more evidence of the lockstep insanty (sic) of liberals that is so readily displayed in the adolescent posts on this board."

You got me there. You are correct, I refuse to believe. Not because of my "lockstep insanity" but because belief has no place in aviation accident investigation.

Next time spell my name right please.

Original article: Sex scandals are bipartisan

Why men cheat

Eugene's First Law of Sexual Dynamics: "If there's something one man can do better than another, there's a woman who'll sleep with him for it."

I think Chris Rock said it better:

"A man is only as faithful as his options"

Sadly, I'm a man with few options.

Get a decent guitar

The main reason beginners give up on the guitar is the plywood crap sold as beginner guitars at most shops. They are buzzy, hard to play, never stay in tune and just sound terrrible. Invest in a quality instrument (with a professional set-up job) and you will progress. I promise. You're a lawyer, you can afford it.

Time was it would cost at least a grand for a good solid wood guitar. Nowadays you can get a Guild GAD series or a Epiphone Masterbuilt for quite a bit less. Of course nothing beats a big boomy Martin or a sweet Gibson. Just don't waste your time with a cheapo ax.

Dangerous Runways

The old Kai Tak checkerboard approach is nothing compared to this runway:

I don't believe there is any scheduled air carrier going in there but you can get air taxi service. Check out You Tube video of a Dash-7 landing there.

BTW, Lennon>McCartney, Strummer>Jones, Mould>Hart, IMHO.
