I think Cary ultimately hit the nail on the head with this one. Halloween is fun and Cary's response was fun. Sometimes that's the way to go.
It's hard to believe how persnickety so many Salon readers about Camille's columns. I certainly don't agree with everything she says, but her style of writing is really loose and cool. The stuff about global warming and especially The New Yorker is just crazy, but have to totally agree about her promotion of Sandra Bernhard and Tom Jones. Not enough can be said about either of them as far as I'm concerned.
I think Cary is mistaken that your breasts would feel the same. I'm under the impression that implants deaden feeling and sensation.
"But hasn't Rush's massive appeal always been based on his adherence to core principles rather than to narrow partnership?" What on earth are those special core principles you're referring to? I've never understood your appreciation of this douche-bag. Camille, as a fan of yours, if your reading this, please try to better explain what about him you find appealing.
I've gotten the impression that Obama knows religion is a farce. He goes to this church and really cares less about what they're preaching. Joan's acting quite conservative and scared for little reason.
Annie Lennox has probably aged the most gracefully and naturally out of all of them. To not think Madonna matters probably means you've had very little fun on a dance-floor.
I wouldn't be so sure that Vivienne Westwood was not nodding to the Bride of Frankenstein with the dress. She's the mother of punk rock clothes for god's sake.
Glenn, this has to be one of your best. Thanks for your writing and reporting.
Dear Gary,
I really appreciated your take and tone with this piece. I think we're at a point where we have to be more open in opposition to Palin and McCain's actions, beliefs and promises. Taking it full out to the psycho-sexual sphere is so obviously a part of the whole attraction. Unfortunately, I'm not so hopeful it won't work. I also can't believe the lack of commentary on little Cindylou's speech introducing John McCain. Her's was by far the most generous and loving speech of the whole convention. However, she comes across a little (ok, a lot) as Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest. They (McLame/Failin') are emotionally unrelated in such disturbed ways that do so much harm. I think more articles attacking their emotional character and exposing them as insane need to be written. I'm sure Salon will give us that. Thank you
The most honest response by Obama would be to say look, "gay people are and always will be used as a political football in this country. The individual humanity of these people does not matter." Gay people of course will continue to fight for our civil rights as we should, but we must also realize the reason things have gotten better for us is because we made our lives better, more open and living with less fear and more dignity. The straight people who have always understood shared humanity will continue to do so and those who don't will continue to want to oppress. Homosexuality will always be despised and individuals need to free themselves.
Great title for the article.
