Going somewhere with more exposure probably means losing some editorial control over his writing.
My fear. And, I'd mourn it. I'd not given much thought to editors spiking columns - until I learned WaPo had done that to Dan Froomkin. And, on occasion I've heard rumblings about HuffPo.
Ya know, as I thought about it... It probably takes a certain amount of intestinal fortitude to publish Camille Paglia. I'm not sure my stomach would be strong enough. ;-)
And, don't they also have some anonymous wingnut doing a gig of some sort, too?
Should I hold the editorial decisions of the NYT against Krugman? They have Maureen Dowd, David Brooks and Ross Douthat.
Look. This is kind of silly. Typically, I forget there even is a wider Salon to look at. I have a bookmarked link to Glenn that is the first click I make after I've launched Firefox. Email is second. The direct link to Krugman's blog is third.
I honestly don't care what the rest of the site does. If/when Glenn leaves Salon, I'll follow him. But, I'll ask again. Where else do people think he should be? Where do you want him to go?
All snark aside... I maintain a premium membership at Salon just to read Glenn Greenwald. I don't habituate any other part of the site unless someone calls particular attention to it in Glenn's threads. By my lights, it's worth every penny to help support his work. And, I'm not alone in those choices.
Glenn has repeatedly affirmed that Salon gives him complete editorial control over his column. They also afford him a platform by which to extend his reach. Glenn made the move from being an independent voice to Salon and determined it would widen his readership. I assume that the benefits of being associated with Salon outweigh the costs, or he would have left before now.
I'm curious. Where would you like him to go instead? With what publishing outfit do you think Glenn Greenwald should be affiliated? And, if he made that move would you assume that he would have the same editorial freedom, editorial control, and number of readers?
I give Salon some credit. Glenn is a fearless writer. I imagine Salon has to be a relatively fearless host as a consequence.
I want a Gatling gun.
I kind of like the looks of this model.

If there would be any way you could consolidate your work so we could spend as little time as possible on sites, like this, your currency would soar.
Here ya go:

I smiled at the synergy knowing immediately who had caught your eye.
Speaking strictly from my one experience with a schoolyard bully who wanted to steal my lunch money, a solid shot to the bridge of that individual's nose did the trick for me. Now, as a result, my hand hurt for several days, I got bully-blood on my school clothes (Eww), I had to explain myself to the principal, I missed some of my classwork, and had to explain to my parents why I hit another kid. All that downside. But, ya know, that ended the bullying.
So. If we investigate and prosecute, where warranted, Bush-Cheney war crimes and lost health care reform, energy+environmental reform, democratic control of congress in the 2010 elections, or obama's reelection in 2012, but set the stage whereby future administrations understood there would be a penalty for "stealing lunch money" and were, thereby, dissuaded from attempting to "steal lunch money," I'd say it was worth it. No one ever argued that this would be a costless undertaking. I'm not sure why anyone would expect it to be. I'm also not sure why you assume the cost would be as high as you imagine.
As we hashed out, in great detail, several posts back, prosecuting war crimes is a DoJ function, NOT a POTUS function. There is no reason Holder can't do his job, while Obama pursues his agenda. As for putting the recruitment of GOP support for Obama's initiatives in jeopardy ... you're dreamin', right? They have already given an emphatic, No, dice! answer to all of that.
So as not to interrupt Glenn's regularly scheduled programming at this point in the thread, I got the same email, but I would direct you to check out...(at sig)...
Torture is immoral.
Oh, no! Don't argue it that way, the "right" will be able to argue that there are some instances when torture might not be immoral.
Torture is illegal.
No, no! Don't argue it that way, the "right" will be able to argue that Yoo and Bybee's memos changed that circumstance.
Torture is ineffective.
But, wait! It hasn't been studied. The "right" will be able to argue that until Cheney's documents are released, and the destroyed tapes are resurrected...
I found the tune fairly dull the first time. It's no more interesting sung in a different key.
