nyc blinders
[Read the article: Cityscape of fear]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]why am i not surprised to find another media story citing new york, and pretty much only new york, as the basis for ? let me speak for chicago, and possibly the rest of non-NYC urban areas across the land, when i say "mr. manjoo, maybe you need to get out more." come visit my hometown of chicago (you know - the one renown for architecture?), and see what we're doing these days. the plans for building new skyscrapers certainly take security into account, but they don't define the building's beauty (or lack thereof). look at santiago calatrava's fordham spire or jeanne gang's aqua. and while you cited the port authority's "garish purple planters" as signs of further crimes against aesthetics, you neglected to concede that other locations (say, like several here in chicago) might have found a way to tastefully implement and tend to planter barriers. not every building's plaza looks like a concrete wasteland, not every new plan for skyscrapers fails to stir men's blood. you want to see some soul, mr. manjoo? get out and see how the rest of america is doing.

money, money, money
[Read the article: How to fix campaign financing forever for $50]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it's certainly an intriguing plan, and i wish the topic of true election reform got more coverage in big media, but... HOW ARE WE GONNA PAY FOR IT? Another $6 billion? When we're already how many trillion in debt? Innovative idea, to be sure - but maybe not so much with the practicality.

miles from fatigued
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i'm entirely willing to admit that i may be in the minority here, but it still does bother me to hear about rampant steroid use in baseball. just because so many players may (or may not) be using illegal drugs to enhance their game doesn't change the illegality of their actions. i wouldn't have heard of the radomski case had king not written about it, and that's a little shameful. i'm all for reading more about the continuing crackdown on steroids, "toothless" as it may be, in hopes that public pressure builds to the point where players take notice.
keep it up, king.
