@bystander

My PC scores(-6.25, -7.13). It's lonely down and to the left...

I was waiting to get on Diane Rehm's show this morning. I wanted to lambaste the press panel for their lame discussion of the telecom retroactive immunity "controversy" and LACK of any demonstrable awareness of the revelations in the Rocky Mountain News yesteday. No luck, ran out of time.

Jeezuz our "media" is a serious contributing factor to the awful state this country is in.

Thanks Glenn...

..for performing myriad onerous taks I simply don't have the stomach for.

BTW. VOTE for GLENN! (at the bloggerschoice awards...)

I just read my wife the para. re: Mukasey's position on FISA

She's off to the store to buy me some razor blades, and draw me a warm bath.

@ RMP

N/T = "no text"

Everything pertinent was in the subject.

I don't think Salon will let you post an "empty" letter.

Funny how I happened in here just in time to see a msg. directed to me...

Hochstein's Office

Male answered. Very friendly, very supportive, happy to get the call, and they're happy to take more of them (hint, hint)...

Says Dodd is looking at "every legislative avenue" and they're "all over it" [the issue].

OK DanOz

You goaded me into leaving a comment for Sen. Dodd 8')

Dodd's Statement

...is worth posting. Go show him some luv. I did.

Spread the Word

The Military Commissions Act. Warrantless wiretapping. Shredding of Habeas Corpus. Torture. Extraordinary Rendition. Secret Prisons.

No more.

I have decided to place a "hold" on the latest FISA bill that would have included amnesty for telecommunications companies that enabled the President's assault on the Constitution by providing personal information on their customers without judicial authorization.

I said that I would do everything I could to stop this bill from passing, and I have.

It's about delivering results -- and as I've said before, the FIRST thing I will do after being sworn into office is restore the Constitution.

But we shouldn't have to wait until then to prevent the further erosion of our country's most treasured document.

That's why I am stopping this bill today.

Please indicate your support for my hold by signing on below and consider sharing your thoughts in the comment section.

Shillin' fer Dodd

DFA is holding a Presidential Primary Pulse Poll to decide which candidate deserves their support. I voted for Senator Christopher Dodd and I need help to move him up from 8th place in the poll.

Could you take just a minute to vote for Christopher Dodd right now? Here's the link:

You're out too late again. Too much time in the saloon... Get some sleep.

Reid's office, short hold, lines busy...

I attempted to have a staffer either confirm or deny reports that Sen. Reid intended to disregard/override Dodd's hold. Expressed my utmost disbelief that this situation might be even remotely plausible.

Staffer: (Rough approximation) "The Senator has yet to release a statement pertaining to the matter, so I can't tell you what's going on, becuase I don't really know."

I was merely chiding gently. No bandages necessary (for lips, or feelings) I hope.

@ Paul Dirks

Paul, I'm in the Green Room for the Diane Rehm show. I intended to ream Harry Reid. I like the phrasing of your letter. May I "borrow" it?

Friday, October 19, 2007 07:56 AM

Paul, I borrowed liberally...

I'll post the link when it becomes available(around 11:15 CT)

Argued the point on Diane Rehm's show today

http://wamu.org/programs/dr/07/10/19.php#13770

My comments @ 36:45 (RealPlayer - I can't get Windows Media to work)

The panel is clueless, blows off the Reid v. Dodd question. Oh well, I had the opportunity to rant.

Incredibly frustrated, horribly depressed, and in a blind rage...

..after reading this post. I suppose that's a credit to Chris. But really, my head's about to explode.

Can't overstate...

...how much I enjoy all y'all joining the "Salonistas" and tossing a few molotovs. The posts so far have been terrific. If anything, GG is a bit too circumspect (IMHO) at times, and I'm really happy he's affording you folks a (somewhat larger?) forum in which to say some things that need sayin'.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 12:25 PM

Something just struck me (a thought?) and it hurt...

Anyway, I will henceforth refer to the matter exclusively as "the War Crime in Iraq". Hope you don't mind me stealin', Chris.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007 07:03 AM

Obana's Pres. campaign "only accepting input"...

Re: The FISA bill. Noone on the campaign to direct me to. Nobody authorized to speak for the Sen. on that topic. Maybe the Senatorial office would have an aide w/ expertise. Senatorial office "experiencing heavy call volume, pls leave a msg."

Clinton offices reachable only via answering machines.

PLEASE don't praise their equivocation...

Both statements were (at best) shining examples of Beltway equivocation. Check out Glenn Greenwald's post on the topic. He explains it much better than I'd be able to...

@ bystander

My mom, may she R.I.P. was a (small-town) union offficial. She effectively drilled into my head "DON'T EDITORIALIZE". In other words, state the facts and get out of the way - let the facts speak for themselves, let others draw the obvious conclusions. A very pre-blogosphere credo. Maybe I ought to blame my mother for my failure to wax a bit more eloquently, as opposed to hit and run contributions.

But at least I called, dammit. And the conclusions I drew were exactly similar to yours. Like you said. GRRRRRR...

Please

Please do not allow sharter24% to become a topic of/derail the thread. It is best ignored.

@GG

Glenn, do you think it makes any difference that Obama/others refer explicitly to retroactive immunity? Grnated , "prospective" immunity would not seemingly torpedo the active lawsuits, BUT, am I missing something? Paranoid, maybe?
