All kidding aside

GG, I understand you're generally reluctant to opine about what "might" happen, but...

Do you see any indications (the Holder, Lederman, Johnsen appointments, Executive Orders issued to date, the WaPo poll) that there may actually BE in inquiry into Bush Admin. crimes?

I tend to believe the Dems CYA attitude will preclude anything substantive, but what do you think?

Diana Powe

I always enjoy your comments. You haven't offered many lateley. Hope all is well w/ you.

GG, seriously

Do you have an agent who can throw your hat in the ring for this?

bystander

thanks for the linky to marcy's post.

I fear comment 20 might be the most accurate. You know, what with an increased budget for investigations, the resultant sternly worded letter will likely be TWO pages!

Is Reynold's the Instadumbtwit guy?

Anyway, I think it's the "actual" that made this funny

Glenn Reynolds -- an actual law professor

I think you should always use that phrase.

Can you gimme a linky for this? I didn't know that...

The point is, the statute of limitations runs out on March 9, 2009 if I recall precisely. Its believed by some that Holder's nomination is being delayed intentionally by Specter in order to run out the clock.

Glenn, please tell me...

...you're bangin' out these posts because you intend to take the week-end off. 8')

Did you just repost?

Might want to tidy this up a bit:

"national security courts") in order to make it easier for us to keep them win against them and keep them incarcerated.

Also, first sentence, last pp., lose the "a" or add an "of"

Slow down, guy. I can barely read as fast as you post. It's wearin' ME out...

C'mon back once you've pulled your head out of your ass and acquired even the most rudimentary grasp of the discussion.

Is my snark detector of today?

Or have we just been graced w/ one of the most jaw-droppingly dimwitted comments, like, ever?

Thanks for the heads up. Now that's the POTUS (hey mom, look, I used a non-disparaging acronym!) I was expecting!

O/T, sorry Glenn, but POTUS!

Can't really blame him, right? It's still the "Bushies"

First Medical Marijuana Raid by DEA under Obama Administration

Advocates call on president Obama to quickly change harmful, outdated policy

Oakland, CA -- The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raided a medical marijuana dispensary today in South Lake Tahoe, California, in the first days of the new Obama Administration. Even though President Barack Obama had made repeated promises during his election campaign to end federal raids in medical marijuana states, many high-ranking Bush Administration officials have yet to leave office. For example, still at the helm of the DEA is acting Administrator Michele Leonhart, who has been responsible for numerous federal raids in California, following in the footsteps of her predecessor Karen Tandy. Neither Eric Holder, President Obama's pick for U.S. Attorney General, nor a new DEA Administrator, have taken office yet.

As someone pointed out earlier...

Haven't the Swiss already stated their willingness to accept the GITMO detainees? Those pot-smoking bicycle riding Swiss?

Doesn't that pretty much solve the "problem"? Can't the eedjits find something something else to pee their diapers about?

Friday, January 23, 2009 11:02 AM

@ maureeno'd, PDA

maureen tks for clearing up my misperception vis a vis Swiss "consideration".

PDA , I've been to the Nederlands & Switzerland, and they both have a fairly (agh! I have to use this term!) "liberal" attitude toward cannabis. And lots of bicycles.

These folks should be encouraged by the RNC to emigrate to the U.S.

They might be convinced to vote Republican...

Somewhat O/T question

Do countries ever peacefully split? Has there ever been any academic examination of why/why not?

Where I'm going - wouldn't the country (world?) be better off without some of the Red States as part of the U.S?

Saturday, January 24, 2009 10:22 AM

Oh, and Steele?

Fuck YOU with your "you are all this and that" bullshit!

Point taken about reading critically and our collective obligation as commenters.

FWIW, I read what I now know is an edited version of the NYT article as reprinted in the Dallas Morning News. It contained none of the points Shane alludes to in his rebuttal of GG's criticism. Not one.

I can't find a linky at the DMN website, and I can't scan it and post a .pdf, so I'll have to ask you to trust me on this. I've reread it twice now.

Dallas Morning News, Sat. 1/24, page 12A, upper right.

Saturday, January 24, 2009 12:04 PM

Would it be an editorial decision made by individual newspapers...

...as to how a particular article appears? I'd read the article in the paper, seen it attributed to the NYT, sneered at it, and moved on. Subsequently reading the update, Glenn's characterization seemed 100% accurate. It WAS a 100% accurate characterization of the article I'd read. So no, I didn't bother to click Glenn's linky to reread it.

I wonder if I should gripe at the wire service, or the DMN editorial staff.

And another thing

You "all" need to get outside and take the week-end off. That goes double for the resident workaholic.

I'm going to try to go see "Waltz w/ Bashir". Hasta luego.

@RMP et al

EXCELLENT post by Marcy Wheeler re: al-Haramain and whether or not POTUS is really going w/ the GWB arguments. Her take, it's "unclear". But definitely read the post.
