arne, Mooser, Mona, et al.

I'm not advocating espionage. Seems to me though, in matters of conscience, there are some weighty issues to grapple with.

Have I crossed some unspoken line here? Holy Crap! I just suggested I could empathize w/ somebody who committed treason!? Why, that's a felony, fer gosh sakes!

Well, at what point does fealty to the King outweigh the dictates of conscience? There were plenty of people who felt Daniel Ellsberg should've been hanged for treason, weren't there? And hell, I think possession of pot in Oklahoma is a felony that can get a first-timer a life sentence, so pardon me, but the whole "it's a felony so it MUST be horrible" argument I don't find particularly persuasive.

And my original question, honestly posed, was "what was the incalculable damage this guy (whom I'd never heard of)" caused? So far it seems to be that he accelerated the USSR (as LWM pointed out, our ostensible ally) nuke program by 18-24 months. So I'm still not gettin' it.

and BTW

I can think of far worse things, quite easily.

Like attacking some country on what appears to be a whim, and killing hundreds of thousands of innocents.

I think all 3 of you agree w/ me on that.

I know.

No "accusation" intended. I @'ed you because I considered you a part of the conversation. Always appreciate your input.

Whew. I thought for a minute that by highlighting that [I'm at a loss for words... "story"?] you were making some arcane "meta" comment on [I couldn't guess what - the media as whores? crazy people?]

I'm going w/ batsh!t f'ing crazy...

What'd I miss?

Just for the Record, Your Honor, I had serial, transient, obsessions w/ a few Kappas in my day.

And I didn't do it!

Everybody's a critic. Gimme a break!

Since GG and Digby are waaaaaay too polite to respond appropriately to the "OMFG! She was all, like, 'you know' a hundred times! And Glenn has a voice made for blogging!" contingent, please allow me...

Howzabout all y'all just have a nice big cup of STFU!?

I mean, Fuck off. Seriously.

A new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.

Suskind writes in “The Way of the World,” to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery – adamantly denied by the White House – was designed to portray a false link between Hussein’s regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.

The author also claims that the Bush administration had information from a top Iraqi intelligence official “that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq – intelligence they received in plenty of time to stop an invasion.”

The letter’s existence has been reported before, and it had been written about as if it were genuine. It was passed in Baghdad to a reporter for The (London) Sunday Telegraph who wrote about it on the front page of Dec. 14, 2003, under the headline, “Terrorist behind September 11 strike ‘was trained by Saddam.’”

Well, 'drew

Gratuitous insults tend to put people off. I'm one of those who feels it's perfectly appropriate to respond "forcefully".

And you might want to learn some rudimentary html, so "vile scum" such as myself (did you forget dim-witted?) can more easily recognize they've been quoted.

Tuesday, August 5, 2008 07:22 AM

I'd argue that MY post didn't fall into the "gratuitous" category

But since your "riposte" made me laugh, I'll concede your point.

email addies are pretty easy to come by

and I routinely (i.e. I have software that does it for me) use "fake" addies for anything on the tubes.

@GG

Bold tags on the post need fixing all of a sudden...

Friday, August 8, 2008 01:20 PM

Glenn, will you please post the last six minutes?

Pretty please?

Of course, if you feel that'd be somehow counterproductive, taken out of context, or whatnot, I'll understand.

Friday, August 8, 2008 05:18 PM

About those remaining six minutes, try to look on the BRIGHT SIDE...

You'll probably get to have TWO conversations w/ the man. If so, no tragedy there was a "glitch" the first time. C'est la vie.
