I noted it because it was one of those "Gee, an interesting post on a topic with which I have zero expertise" comments.
GG manages to skewer the punditocracy, LOTEO*, and KO using the same theme.
Cue the "Leave LOTEO ALONE!" comments in three... two...

U.S. and Europe Near Agreement on Private DataBy CHARLIE SAVAGE
Published: June 28, 2008
WASHINGTON — The United States and the European Union are nearing completion of an agreement allowing law enforcement and security agencies to obtain private information — like credit card transactions, travel histories and Internet browsing habits — about people on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
The potential agreement, as outlined in an internal report obtained by The New York Times, would represent a diplomatic breakthrough for American counterterrorism officials, who have clashed with the European Union over demands for personal data. Europe generally has more stringent laws restricting how governments and businesses can collect and transfer such information.
Negotiators, who have been meeting since February 2007, have largely agreed on draft language for 12 major issues central to a “binding international agreement,” the report said. The pact would make clear that it is lawful for European governments and companies to transfer personal information to the United States, and vice versa...
Scare? Maybe. Pants off? Probably not. My wife told me not to have any more supermodels sending me risque photos...
Besides, fer sure the NSA reads my stuff coming and going.

Thanks for the linky
I submit that Risen quoting GG on FISA in the NYT is never O/T.
Did you have the opportunity to ask Risen any questions? To whit, "what the hell is wrong w/ him [Risen] lately?"
No need to derail the thread, I'll wait for the post.

I'm not familiar w/ this Huff Post writer, but the article's on the Right's conflation of Patriotism w/ Nationalism. Rips the Doughy Pantload a new one, in the process, but it's more than just beatin' up on that hapless buffoon.

Interesting take on RWA thinking and how it impacts our ability to adapt to change.
Should've been a prosecutor, perhaps.
Love that email to Craig.
I'm guessing, if word gets out, and you ever have occasion to send an email to, say, the White House... they simply won't open it.
LOTE's killin' me. "Justice tempered w/ mercy" (for me, and other disillusioned supporters of the Constitution), Glenn.
Do you even read the posts before you spout off?
GG has amply delineated his position (supported w/ poll data)that, not only do LOTE's flip-flops undermine the Constitution, but they in all likelihood DECREASE his electoral chances.
Pull your head out.
...perhaps you'd be kind enough to tell us those seven words.
(Is our slate clean, now?)
Has anybody seen the vid of Hitchen's being waterboarded? He lasted, oh, 5 seconds, before deciding "Gee, it really IS torture!"
Gave me an idea for a slogan. Needs work, but...
Obama! Cuz you couldn't waterboard me into voting for McCain!!
My acronym for "Lesser of Two Evils".
Hasn't quite caught on, yet. But in the spirit of a certain someone, may he R.I.P., I'm gonna go down swinging.

No need. Use it, pass it around.
It is demoralizing, as is Obama's behavior of late. I'm one of those lefty fringers who was, at least initially, so steamed about Obama's flip-flop on FISA that I vowed to stay home. LOTE is where I've arrived, and only the Audacity of Hope allows me to believe there's even the most remote possibility I'll be encouraged to move off that position.
Must've missed that "Glennhead", bit, or I'd have been tempted to rally to your defense... I'm actually not "here" continually, just try to pop in and out as often as I can. Sometimes I lose track of the thread.
David Corn wrote a (2003?) book entitled "The Lies of George W. Bush". In it were lots of examples. Many of them were "campaign promises" vs. subsequent statements/actions.
My brother's thesis was campaign promises don't EVEN rise to the level of LIES, since everybody knows any politician will say whatever they feel is necessary in order to be elected.
Don't know of any comprehensive study/answer to your question, but there's one data point for you.
FWIW, Baldie, thanks, but I took Gen.D's remark as an actual compliment!
Later, all...
Derbig! Yer killing me tonite, man.

I'm not just following along in blind admiration of at GG positionI am. Whatever Good Celery says goes double for me!

On a related topic, I got a msg from Russ Feingold that said the pressure on his fellow Senators to vote FOR the FISA "compromise" was intense...
Does anybody have any idea where this intense pressure is coming from?
