? re: open primaries, or whatever they're called

Apparently they're running short of Dem ballots in NH as large #'s of "misaligned" or whatever seem to be "breaking Dem".

What's the definitive interpretation of this behavior? Just so you know where I'm coming from, I used to routinely switch my designated party affiliation to "whatever party was not incumbent". I figured the incumbent would virtually always win the primary, so my vote in the opposing party would carry more clout. If I LIKED the incumbent, I'd cast a vote for the opposing candidate I felt was most likely to be defeated. If not, then I'd vote for my preferred opponent.

Not sure if MY behvior in primaries was at all a reflection of what my vote would be in the general.

Behvior akin to this MIGHT be magnified in a primary such as NH's. Damned if I can figger it out.

shoulda, woulda, coulda...

Bystander, "if only" I'd rephrased my bit at the end to "overwhelm the obstructionist Republicans" instead of "eliminate" DR/Borden might not have fixated on that aspect. Oh, well. Live and learn.

Nice to be able to spout off sometimes, but the responses are almost uniformly frustrating.

Surprising. I'm closest to

Barack Obama

You are 5% economic left

You are 4% more progressive

You have a substantive agreement of 81%

PD

All the usual caveats apply, I guess. One of which is, I'm not sure the candidates have all articulated positions (or voted on legislation pertaining to) the positions the compass questioned.

But I'm usually WAAAAAAY "Left".

@RMP - Scalia

Justice Antonin Scalia was the most outspoken in defense of the lethal injection procedure, and said arguments about which procedure would cause the least amount of pain were beside the point.

“Where does this come from, that … in the execution of a person who has been convicted of killing people we must choose the least painful method possible? Is that somewhere in our Constitution?” Scalia asked.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Didn't GG say this was an open thread?

The canine candidate is getting unfair press coverage.

There will be no further investigation because the gun was covered with the chocolate Labrador Retriever's muddy paw prints she added.

It's not uncommon for hunters to be shot by their dogs.

? re: primaries in the aggregate

Is it "winner take all" sate-by-state? Or are delegates assigned proportionally? Some mixture thereof?

For L.W.M.

Were you joshin' yesterday, about returning to this topic?

I'm reaching for a (postal)connection. The media sucks at adressing the issue? The pundits are wrong? The public is not to be trusted?

You're right about the inside baseball. Good catch on the deficit reduction thing, I blew over that.

Concur about the tobacc. I don't understand the allure of the commercail American, but I have rolled my own European. Still twist the occassional cut from the cigar shop.

Think you're overstating the position of most Drug Reformers by going the Libertarian laissez-faire route. I think it's more like, "tax & regulate sales via a mechanism akin to alcohol".
