Mr. Manjoo,
[Read the article: Does Blockbuster edit its movies?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]as I suggested, you can always refuse to rate their movies. I don't. It is a waste of my time, and my ego doesn't need the stroking. (That's why I have cats. :)!! ))
You're correct that Netflix is probably feeling the competition, but I don't want either BB or Netflix to go under. I need them to keep each other honest. And I don't want Netflix to cut their rates to the point that they can't provide the service I want. As I wrote earlier, I don't have Netflix to save money. I have it to see films otherwise unavailable to me.
I despise shopping for anything other than food. I damn near walked out of an Office Depot this morning because I was exhausted from walking the aisles trying to find my items - and then waiting on line for what seemed forever. (I didn't realize that all the tweens would be there shopping with their daddies. Ugh!)
I do think the headline - Netflix won't let you go - was borderline unethical; certainly it was not accurate, and it was not worthy of your history as a writer. I think you should change the headline, and apologize to Netflix.

I had no idea
[Read the article: Does Blockbuster edit its movies?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]that BB didn't rent NC 17 and non-rated movies. It now makes sense: when I went into their stores, there was nothing for me to rent except frat boy films filled with bimbos and potty jokes. THAT'S okay with the Focus on the Fanny types. But a film that might actually make you think...well, no room for that.
I suspect that in a few months, someone will make a doc film about Larry Craig. Guess we can't expect BB to stock that one either.

Sparky,
[Read the article: "Jiminy God!": The Larry Craig story]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]you ask a legit question about anonymous sources and how a reporter might go about finding out the private comings and goings of closeted gay people. First, I remind you that there are still some very good investigative reporters out there. Many of them work in the non MSM world, so you won't find their reporting on the front page of the Post or the Times.
Also, in the insular world of Washington, a lot of things happen that might make the Focus on the Fanny types back home really uncomfortable - but they stay in Washington. Washington has a long and honorable history of covering up private sexual behavior of the powerful, but it does not therefore mean that NO ONE knows about it other than the participants. Lady Bird Johnson Park has been a spot for gay cruising for years. Bars and lounges - NOT ones that cater exclusively to a gay crowd - all over the city are friendly and protective of their famous gay patrons.
Anyone who works on the Hill could have told you about Craig - it has been an open secret for years. Schrock, a VA pol from the Hampton Roads area who was a retired Navel pilot, was known for YEARS to be gay before he was outed a few years back. (And trust me, VA has a number of closeted gay repubs - I'm hoping that more of them come out because of the Craig business.)
In short, there are no secrets in Washington - just things that the good folks back home don't want to know about.

Tom Davis,
[Read the article: John Warner to retire from Senate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]RINO from Northern Virginia, will go after Warner's seat. He'll have to run against some Southside slimeball such as Jerry Kilgore. Hee hee hee! It won't be pretty. And Davis will either than to give up his seat for a not sure thing, or keep it, and if he loses the Repub nomination for Warner's seat, he'll have to explain himself to the voters of his district. Watch Jerry Connelly, currently chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to run. (This is the position that Davis had before he ran against Leslie Byrne who held the seat.)
Order up a pizza, honey! It's going to be fun in the Old Dominion for the next six months!
