Mocking New Jersey

This whole race shows why the rest of the country likes making fun of Jersey. A blatant crook running against...another blatant crook. Has anyone in either party their considered, oh, something resembling a good candidate? At least someone so undistinguished and obscure that no one knows the shit they've already pulled?

Seriously, I'm from Illinois, land of crappy governors, and this just makes me shake my head and go 'what the fuck?'

@ le chat rose

I just laughed enough at that to get chai up my nose. I thank you. Now that I'm done coughing.

Should a teenager be allowed to sail the globe?

Um, not if they're still a minor. I'm sorry, but there are some tings a minor just shouldn't be allowed to do, period. If you aren't legally considered an adult in whatever country you live in, you sure as hell shouldn't be allowed to do something as insane as try and sail solo around the planet. Once you're old enough to legally live on your own, unsupervised, than I don't fucking care, take up wrestling polar bears if you think it's a good idea. But if you aren't technically an adult, then it's a really good point at which to make the cutoff for who should and shouldn't be allowed to do that type of thing.

By all logic, if you're a minor, and sailing around the world solo...how are your parents not effectively commiting child-neglect?

Wow...

Okay, um...I'm screwed under that dress code. I wear glasses with transitions lens. The lenses are old, so they take like 30-45 minutes to stop being sun glasses after coming indoors. Nice to know their dress-code prefers that I be basically blind for that time.

Also, does anyone see the irony in the campus technically prefering guys to be naked over wearing clothes normally favored by women? And what about dashikis? They're designed almost identically to tunics in some cases, and Senegalese kaftans look a LOT like gowns for women, but are just as much made for men as dashikis. If a speaker shows up in one, would he be booted off campus until he changed?

@ Zorkna

Give the persecution complex a fucking rest, would ya? No one with a functioning brain would consider what Alex said anti-Semitic while considering what Merwin and Ulmer said to be okay.

Coming next week: Al Franken refers to himself as a Jew; Zorkna calls him Hitler for it.

@ Asehpe and miriald

Yup. U.B. is pretty much doing a good job of making the Y-chromosome look bad.

@ Zorkna? That comment wasn't racist huh? Your hypothetical was set in JAPAN and you still used africans in it. Which you pretty much had to have done deliberately. Also, yeah, if someone shipped in a bunch of Somalis to Hiroshima, I guarantee you it would be hell, because, as with any group, they probably wouldn't appreciate being dragged across another continent and tossed on to radioactive rubble. You're example makes it about the Somalis being african, not about it being a lawless area and a failed state. And the living in West Africa comes off a LOT like people who aren't racist because they have black friends.

@ Willie99

You'd be right, except for one thing. The video says it's an embryo. An embryo isn't even -close- to that stage of development. An embryo looks like nothing so much as an albino tadpole. But it's hard to get sympathy for mouthless, limbless pale lumps with tails.

And to the earlier poster who equates pro-choice with pro-abortion? Bull. There are plenty of women who wouldn't have an abortion themselves, but wouldn't refuse another's right to do so.

Also, not every damn abortion has anything to do with 'bad choices' on the mother's part. If a fetus develops without a completed skull, an abortion is a very good choice. The fetus won't be a viable baby, and it would be inhuman stress to put a potential mother through the development of something that will literally die almost the moment the umbilical cord is cut. There are -tons- of reasons for abortions that don't stem from a parent's inability to financially support a baby.

Legal documentation and the 'long form'

I have to laugh at all this shit about the long form certificate, as though it measn something. Not every state has one, and it isn't a legal document.

Asserting that Obama can't be president because he isn't showing a hospital document is like asserting I drive without a liscense because I don't have my Driver's Ed. final exam in my glove compartment.

Damn!

I should have read the coments before snarking. Hick beat me to it.

WHich country?

"Stand up for our Country huh? Does she mean USA, or an independant Alaska? Hard to tell from someone married to a secessionist.

Original article: Betting against America

@ Uncle Fester

Don't forget, also all people who have almost the exact same background (being in Harlem and all) and are therefore statistically likely to vote the same way based on very similar experiences). Even the views of a thousand black men in Harlem are statistically irrelivant to anything. It just tells you how black men in Harlem tend to vote. Doesn't really reflect on, say, asian men in 'Silicon Valley', who were also voting overwhelmingly for Obama. And it's fairly safe to say they aren't likely to be stupid; or that they'd share many meaningful sociologic connections to poorer black people on the east coast
