If I was a Republican candidate I would be pissed off...
[Read the article: What you missed while watching "Chad Vader"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]CNN did a horrible job (or a great job, depending on their goal) of choosing questioners and questions. They tried to make Republican citizens look like crazed gun nuts, they tried to marginalize Ron Paul by giving him the CFR question, and Cooper was a terrible moderator - he had almost no control.
There were some great moments, though. Giuliani came up really small; his "sanctuary mansion" quip was beyond petty. Huckabee looked like the front runner - he took the high ground and kept it. McCain was sincere, mostly, but seemed tired and worn out. Thompson is complacent, almost like he simply expects to win. Romney scored points on Giuliani, but lost big with his exchange with Huckabee on immigrant children.
Back to CNN: they did a major disservice to voters and citizens. They treated the debate like entertainment, slipped in some ringers, and betrayed a bias against Republicans in general. And no, I am not a Republican.

I'm no fan of the guy, but
[Read the article: Craig denies new gay sex allegations]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I read that article, and it's an example of lazy reporting. The reporter did no investigation, just listed some publicity seeking guys looking to get in the papers. Reporting rumors and unsubstantiated claims is not journalism.

Most Disturbing To Me
[Read the article: Inside the CIA's notorious "black sites"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]is the use of mental health professionals to further the interrogations. while there is no way to confirm that actual psychiatrists were involved, or if they were just lackeys pretending to be shrinks, if they were real doctors then they have betrayed their ethics and morals to participate in actions like this.
on a gut level this man's story sounds legit. the little details, like how many links were in the chain that bound him to the wall, don't often come up in fabricated accounts. the fact that the US government doesn't deny that they're doing things like this make it even more plausible.
our duty as American citizens, if we believe this, is to hold our government accountable. any elected representative who has supported the administration in their conduct MUST be contacted and told, by their constituents, that they will not be supported in the future unless they act to prevent these abuses.
Write a letter, on paper, or call your representatives office. Request, or demand, a reply. If we don't act nothing will be done.

It's so easy to predict something after the fact.....
[Read the article: Huckabee and criminals: It's worse than just Wayne DuMond]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Right or wrong, Huckabee made a decision that every state governor is faced with throughout their terms of office. Keep in mind that while awaiting trial Dumond was attacked, raped and castrated, in a case that has not been resolved, even though one of the attackers admitted his involvement.
I offer that, not as justification for Dumond's actions, but as an example of what someone in Huckabee's shoes is dealing with. We all know that if he had to do it over he would choose differently. But sometimes a tragedy is just a tragedy.
Life, and politics, is full of judgement calls. I would rather have someone exercising thoughtful judgement than someone like Romney who just wants to "double Guantanamo". Perhaps Huckabee relied too much on counsel from those in the Arkansas religious community when faced with these decisions. There is a good chance that he's learned from that experience.
Not that I plan on voting for him. I disagree with many of his positions. He is, however, a man who possesses and acts with compassion. There is something to be said for that.

I actually watched much of this on CSPAN
[Read the article: Harry Reid -- compare and contrast]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]HI, my name is Artie, and I'm a political junkie.
Dodd was great today. He slapped Harry Reid hard, hard enough for now anyway.
I don't get Reid. I am not a fan of personal insults, but he comes off like a real wimp in the face of Republican threats. Someone needs to remind him that he is The MAJORITY Leader.

why is obama "black"?
[Read the article: Jonah Goldberg and Glenn Reynolds warn of "social unraveling" if Obama loses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]his mother is white. his father is black. is this a remnant of the old "tainted blood" theory?
when will we stop trying to classify people like this?

the deck is stacked for Clinton
[Read the article: No makeover for Hillary -- yet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The delegate selection process does not end in NH. Iowa and NH are about the media. In big states with large slates of delegates the Clinton machine is strong. She'll win NY, NJ, FL, and CA, and that, along with the "super delegates" could very well put her on the ticket.
In the same way, Giuliani is still in the game. In his case it has been his strategy all along. I'm not ruling out a Clinton v. Giuliani election. I'm not hoping for it...

Before you call them scabs
[Read the article: Stewart rambles, Colbert rallies! ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Keep in mind that the writer's strike is about getting a fair contract for the writers. The "contract" part is key. When two parties have a contract they are both bound to honor it. These guys have contracts to put on their shows. The idea that you violate one contract to help get a different one is what should be labeled hypocritical.
I'm glad they are back, and I think they both rose to the occassion. I'm not sure how long they can keep it up, both of them obviously missed their teams, and a daily show without its supporting cast will be less than optimal.

I saw Garrett's first report on this
[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and he was at once incredibly confident that he was right, and making sure that everyone knew that if it wasn't true it wouldn't be his fault. an absolutely chickenshit job of reporting a "scoop".

Dear Hillary,
[Read the article: What Hillary would do tomorrow, if she could]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Please think before you speak.
The effect of a 5 year freeze on mortgage rates will be to stop banks from lending money.
A moratorium on foreclosures will stop banks from lending money.
$30 billion to bail out borrowers will reward banks for making stupid decisions.
$25 billion for heat will reward utilities for not investing in alternate energy sources.
Doubling unemployment benefits simply postpones the inevitable.
For each of these "proposals" the effect would be another problem popping up. Back to the drawing board.
