  • A President's Judged By The Consultants He Hires?

[Read the article: Obama hits back at Clinton ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yes, good judgment in hiring the right people is key, but I'm much more interested in who he puts in his Cabinet than whether he knows how to pick a good strategist. A lot of other candidates have used David Axelrod and they haven't all been great once in office. For instance, take Deval Patrick. By all accounts I can find, he's been a terrible governor. • Wow, What A Selfish Man Matt Gonzalez Must Be

[Read the article: The audacity of narcissism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Instead of running for office again and saving the poor city of San Francisco from the dastardly moderate whom they foolishly chose to elect, he went off and practiced law so he could make tons of cash, leaving the town bereft of any credible left-wing opposition. Please. Newsom's left-wing enough! What would you like him to do, illegalize the car? Triple taxes?

  • "The Black Kennedy"

    [Read the article: Brand-aid]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think all the Kennedy comparisons Obama gets are telling. It's true, no doubt, that having a likable, charismatic President could help restore our nation's image abroad. If that's your highest priority, you should probably support Obama. But the downside of Kennedy's administration, one which I think you'd see in an Obama administration as well, is that nothing got done. For all the talk about change, or as he put it in his campaign, "getting America moving again," all the progress in domestic policy - civil rights, voting rights, Medicare - was made by his successor, Johnson. Kennedy's legacy to us is the Peace Corps. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country," were, despite Obama's plagiarized suggestions to the contrary, just words.

  • Well

[Read the article: Clinton, Obama debut new ads]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Clinton ads are pretty solid, though there's something a little ridiculous and comical about these incessant shots of her reading papers in her thick glasses way into the wee night hours. The Obama ad was pretty weak. His strength is his intellect and seeming honesty, so it kind of dilutes that to see him delivering some dumbed-down contrived message in an ad. I prefer the ads that excerpt from his speeches to this kind of format. It's also dull and I don't think he's nearly as effective of a speaker sitting down. He can't use all his gestures and he doesn't know how to look at the camera properly.

  • Um...

[Read the article: What Howard Kurtz means by "media scrutiny"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Gore was a pompous, lying bore and Kerry was an awkward flip-flopping weakling. Maybe Gore's lost some of the pomposity now that he doesn't have to deal with the pressures of running for President, but those were fair characterizations at the time. The media also largely depicted Bush as a dimwit. I don't really see the systemic unfairness you're talking about.

  • Well Good For Her, Instantaneous Withdrawal's A Stupid Idea

[Read the article: Surge coauthor believes Clinton would wait on withdrawal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It may be expedient for her to say she favors withdrawing immediately now, but I hope that if elected she doesn't.

  • So If You Don't Vote For Obama You're A Racist

[Read the article: Quarter of Clinton supporters would vote McCain over Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That appears to be what many of you are saying. And that's absurd. There are all kinds of nonracial reasons to vote for McCain over Obama.

  • "But if there is an Obama rhapsody in the air, the 66-year-old Strickland insists that he cannot hear it. "

    Walter's implication: that's because he's soooooooo old.

  • I'm No Economist, But...

[Read the article: John McCain's permanent tax cut revolution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't think it makes much sense to raise taxes when you're headed into a recession. There's a time for raising taxes but I find it hard to believe that that time is now.

  • BadgerBlue's Post Is So Nonsensical I Don't Know Where To Start

[Read the article: Hillary Clinton makes her stand in Ohio]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Only Obama maniacs could figure out a way to twist choosing to continue on in a primary that's miles away from being decided into some kind of insult to the voters. Hillary never dismissed the results in the past 11 primaries. She just isn't treating them as decisive, and why should she? She's won about 48% of the delegates so far, so obviously those 11 states aren't reflective of the nation's sentiment as a whole. The people haven't spoken in anything remotely approaching one voice, and it makes perfect sense to hold out until at least Ohio and Texas (both of which, by the way, are larger than any of the states in Obama's win streak) have gotten to vote. The real insult to the voters is the suggestion that Hillary should quit before many states get their chance to vote.

  • Um...

[Read the article: Jay-Z records robocall for Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Didn't this guy make a living out of rapping about selling crack and being a misogynist jerk? Wasn't he convicted of stabbing another record exec? I love his music and all, but I'm not sure this is the sort of endorsement you want, especially if you're a black candidate... what will Fox News say?
