Obama will win partly because
[Read the article: How the long primary battle helps Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]of this endless go-round with HRC, I believe. Joan's right about that.
Take the Rev. Wright issue. HRC is doing Obama a favor by bringing it up again. Her motive is pretty ugly, as is the point she's trying to score, but the result is that the issue loses ju ju. Every item she and her ax-men can dig up or manufacture offers Obama another chance to gain stature by either batting it down or letting it wash right off him. The guys who made out Al Gore as the big lier of 2000 and John Kerry as the war coward of 2004 will be coming after Obama with every knife they've got. HRC is just wearing out their edges.
I'm confident Obama will survive anything HRC throws at him, and then anything McCain can throw at him in the fall, because he's the more charismatic candidate in the field. I don't think that's a recommendation to office, but in my memory (which dates back to Carter v. Ford), the more charismatic candidate has won every time. Why should it be any different this time?
Once you recognize that Obama really WILL win, you can stop worrying about HRC... and stop running her down. She's a powerhouse and an incredible asset for Democrats in the Senate. She'll be there with Obama as president. She'll be there for a long time. Why not quit the HRC is a monster b.s.?
She can't defeat Obama and all her attacks will only strengthen him.
The argument that her attacks weaken him and the Democrats across the board holds no water b.c. there's NOTHING the Republicans won't dig up or manufacture in the fall. If this weren't the case, the argument that her negative attacks are sullying Obama would make sense. But it IS the case.
In what dream world does anybody think Obama could cruise to the White House without getting rubbed with every vile imagining Carl Rove et. al. are capable of inventing?
He's just got to dust it off. And he will.

Why all this fear...
[Read the article: Hillary's team crosses the line]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]that ANYTHING Hillary or her campaign might say will really hurt Obama?
It won't.
He'll keep shaking all the dirt off and win the nomination. And then in the fall, there'll be no vile piece of s@#t left that hasn't already bean hurled at him and washed off.
She's vaccinating him.
AND her tough as nails, hardball politics is a strength for the party. She can be great in the Senate for years to come. Why bash her around?
It seems like you're afraid she really might take Obama down
Again:
She won't.
He really is that guy, that striking, brilliant, political figure people have been murmuring about. If you want to support him, just keep imagining and articulating everything he might accomplish.

What's with you Obama pissers?
[Read the article: Why John Edwards hasn't endorsed Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I like Obama and am sure he'll win both the nomination and the election, and when I have read all this pissing on the part of you apparent Obama supporters ripping into Joan over her lean toward Clinton, I've just written it off as bloggese for strong opinions.
But I'm beginning to wonder... is there a harbinger in your tone? Is this what the ethos of an Obama presidency is going to feel like?
If so...
yuck.
I like to imagine that Obama offers great possibilities and think the strongest thing those of you who believe in him can do is imagine and articulate what those might be.
Or are you really just Clinton moles?
And if so...
Yuck.

before i read further...
[Read the article: Will Obama's debate stumble hurt him?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The questions directed to Obama in the first part of the debate were not "tough." They were directed at issues that have nothing to do with the many consequential matters at stake this election cycle. They were stupid. They were petty.
I wonder what the MSM response would have been if Obama had (appropriately) responded to each silly cavil with his bright smile, a wink and,"I know you are but what am I?"
Joan,
Why do you think the questions were "tough"?

Nausea
[Read the article: Will Obama's debate stumble hurt him?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I just loved Bill Clinton and when Hillary ran for the Senate and won I got a real charge out of seeing the Clintons defy and defeat the petty Republican attach mongrels.
Back when a Hillary campaign for President was just a (well founded) rumor, I felt encouraged by the thought that she'd hand the sickos an even more damaging defeat. I looked forward to her triumph and vindication, which, because I had such high expectations for her, I took for granted.
The saddest aspect of her defeat in the primaries has been her descent into nauseatingly boring and petty campaign tactics.
I wonder if my excitement about the Clintons was wrongly based all along.
I used to think "Clinton fatigue" was a slur, but I'm beginning to think it a polite way of saying that those two people have become revolting.
This is REALLY DAMN FRUSTRATING!!!!!
I forgave Bill for the whole sex thing without blinking, and never thought it fair that HE was blamed for "throwing away" his Presidency.
But how can I forgive them this deliberately destructive and most damningly of all BORING behavior?
(Yes, this is the same dog-walker who's argued that Hillary has been strengthening Obama with her challenges, and I meant it, but she's passed some tipping point. I think more than anything it's been the way she (and, more disgustingly, Bill) has suggested that Obama couldn't "take" the "tough" questions. The whole "don't put on the uniform" argument is just too much because 1. he never seemed to be complaining from a point of weakness and 2. it was EXACTLY the sin Hillary had been committing right up until that very moment.)
BTW: I'm not in love with Obama, but at this point, he's all we've got.
