Again, occupation would certainly be your word, a lot of people would take great issue with you calling the US presence in Afghanistan in your country an occupation.

Excuse me, are the Afghan security forces able to defend the Afghan civilians?

hmph.

hm...

(Attack on UN officials is cited)

Yeah, of course the Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack on the UN that you mentioned.

i.e. gotcha, you need the "occupation" to protect you from the Taliban, shows what you know. That was pro. Heidi Collins' hubris is off the chart. Malalai Joya obviously needs to read more.

The CNN International version...

"US out of Aghanistan NOW" that is what your button says?"

"A woman who has forgotten more about Afghanistan than perhaps we will ever know calling for a change in US strategy in the region."

oh come, farragots argument wasn't so bad...

glenn's view: If we just keep out of the Middle East they won't see us as the enemy and will leave us alone. And any evil they committ is simply because we have been attacking them since the beginning of time.

It just needs a little work is all:

If we just keep out of the Middle East they won't see us as the enemy and will leave us alone. Some bullshit.

orbitboy

have you ever seen this clip?

Pretty funny.

"EVER accurately recounted one of Glenn's points?"

No, although it does happen on both sides. The right is just more honest about the fun that can be had in killing foreigners. Drooling Militarists (i.e. real conservatives) are too imperceptive, too much a part of the hive to be able to understand that their rhetoric isn't as persuasive if you don't already 100% agree it in its entirety. That is the personality the GOP attracts. Act as one now and reflect on your actions.... well, later... never if possible.

Warmongers on the left though, like everybody's friend Silenced, use tricks to try and deceive people. Like Churching up the rhetoric with bleeding vaginas, trying to pluck your heartstring and get you on the interventionist wavelength. It takes a little prodding and a bit of peeling to get to the murder part of their agenda. It's there though. That's what makes it so fun.

And since US Military Occupation = Stability and Goodness

We should really take over for Israel in Gaza and the West Bank. The Israeli's been occupying for decades and still can't seem to figure out how to fix things. Since the American Military is so good at fixing things, and might possibly maybe fix things in Afghanistan and Iraq over 20-30-40 years (who knows, little details like that aren't relevant), why not fix Palestine too? That is ten years less time then Israel has wasted not fixing things. If we can fix a much bigger area like Afghanistan in half the time it takes to the Israelis, then the Israelis need to step aside and let us show them how a real occupation is handled.

I hear there are even terrorists that might be plotting bad things in Palestine too, possibly against Americans, therefore putting us in danger. What are we waiting for?

Dan Senor gets it

If there is a bad guy in a foreign country, or if there is a bad guy training another bad in a foreign country, any foreign country, invade, overthrow, occupy, build a military base or three (would that be 733 or 736 total, nobody cares why even bother keeping count nowadays?), garrison hundreds of thousands of troops there (a modest number, COIN considers 600k more acceptable), and hang out for a the next million years or until you run out of fake money. The locals will eventually give up and we can always bribe the ones that don't, forever or until we run out of fake money. That is COIN. That is our policy our method our fix.

The logical conclusion is Military Bases for all. Every country, no more giving Sweden a pass. There might be terrorists plotting plots in Sweden in much the same way the 9/11 hijackers plotted in Germany where we Americans still have thousands of troops hanging out.

But never mind that we can give all the other countries that don't have a base a choice. Either let us occupy your country and fix it for you, or else, "else" in this case being the implied threat of nuclear retaliation for insulting our pride. All options are always on the table, For Good.

We can also give offer a similar choice to our loyal colonies, a slight change in policy. Pay us tribute so that we may use it to provide Americans with whatever we want domestically or we'll nuke the shit out of you. If we are going to be an Empire we should at least do it properly, instead of giving our colonies money but only if they give some of it back or spend it on our fun and innovative weapons.

What is so hard to understand about that?

"The real focus should be on whether the mistakes of the last five years are undoable or not;"

They aren't. And we'll keep not figuring that out, thanks to the good honest do-gooding interventionists.

powwow's pledge

it was interesting, but as someone in the comments noted they already make a pledge to uphold the Constitution and look how well that has worked out.
