maddymappo warns of mushroom clouds over NYC

But why plan to have this dog and pony show trial held in Manhatten, when it is foreseeable that it will invite maniacs annonymous from the four corners of the world to make a terror statement?

You really think that is going to happen? Could this trial result in NYC being turned into a mushroom cloud?

Not only that but securing the city costs a fortune.

They can hide under their beds for free.

This was on NPR this morning

I had a feeling I would check UT and this morning ans see something about this story and this in particular:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120377026

This is one of the really big issues here, although in the case of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, he actually admitted before being tortured that he was the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, so that makes him slightly different than some of these other detainees who have been tortured and who maybe only admitted to something after they were subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques and torture.

Torture on NPR?

Someone on NPR pretty much admitted that he is getting a civilian trial because they know they can win. It may have been on all things considered, I don't remember and the audio/transcript isn't up yet.

"It's consistent, it's typical, and it's an embarrassment." — Amity

Yes, it is. I always forget the informed and serious arguments like Evil Corporation Bad, Benevolent Empire Good. Thanks for reminding me.

Morning's Minion

Roads? Stamps? Schools? Hospitals? Sidewalks? Firemen? Parks?

The United States Federal Government is necessary for sidewalks? Really?

So you are claiming that none of the above services could exist without the United States Federal Government? Are you telling me that the USPS, the Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture are bulwarks against "wasteland"? Can't those services be provided by state and local Governments or private services? Or is that notion absurd? Private Mail carriers being able to compete with the Government? That sounds pretty crazy!

heru-ur

Why do you hate freedom so much? Why are you so afraid of living life as a free man?

It isn't hatred of Freedom and Liberty it is fear of its consequences. The hate lies with the Evil Corporations that make the products they consume.

Spoken like a true believer.

Because those corporations would be oh-so-all-powerful without the protections they enjoy and the welfare checks they receive from the State. Let's see how powerful the military industrial complex is without its welfare check from Uncle Sam.

"there will be consolidation, collusion, and monopoly."

That's fine. Participation is voluntary. If you don't like it, don't participate. I believe it's also known as a boycott.

But boycotts and participation decisions require taking time away from leisure activities to read boring details. Best to just pay a trustworthy fellow tax dollars to do that for us. This trustworthy fellow is real and exists, unlike free markets, which don't exist even though they've existed for around 10,000 years.

— What the???

Who is leading this movement? They are obviously super secret and I don't have a decoder ring like you seem to.

So who is it? Who is the figurehead of this anti-populist "corporate power" movement I've been learning about today?

Whoever they are, they are awfully clever, using populist rhetoric condemning the Federal Reserve and Foreign Intervention as a mere smokescreen for their anti-populist pro-bankster, pro-war agenda. Reverse psychology. Genius. It really is.

Who is in charge of all this? I must know.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 02:47 PM

"who shape shift their rhetoric depending on which real political party is in power at the moment. "

LOL. Yes, it is antiwar.com that shifts its rhetoric depending on who is in power (like I did) and not DailyKos, MoveOn, Code Pink, The Tea Party Movement, Glenn Beck, Keith Olbermann, etc. etc. etc.

All of these arguments against Libertarians would be much better arguments if they didn't make you all look like hypocrites.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 02:44 PM

details details

Black markets aren't free yet I'm supposed to believe that the Federal Reserve, i.e. the central bank, is part of this so-called free market? Absurd.

"socially useful product or service"

Prostitutes and drug dealers are more socially useful than politicians, bankers, and their murder weapons.

You seem to be assuming that corporations would exist in the same form and have the same privileges and powers without being granted the gift of personhood by the state.

How does one even define a corporation if there is no state to ensure its "corporate personhood"?

Thursday, November 12, 2009 02:30 PM

I am enjoying these Libertarian Conspiracy Theories

Who is the leader of this vast corporatist conspiracy? Who are the figureheads? Where are people making the claims I hear? Is it all a big secret? If it is then the secret keepers are very very secretive. Whoever they are.

Did the leaders of the Libertarians Conspiracy disappear in WTC7? Are they reptilians? You might want to get in touch with David Icke and Sherry Shriner they would be interested to know the details of these conspiracies.

Free markets don't work?

Then what were people doing in market for thousands of years?

Go buy a prostitute or a bag of pot. The Free Market seems to work pretty well. Just because it is a black market doesn't mean it isn't free, in fact it is completely free. And it works.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 02:03 PM

I get it. It all makes senes now.

Libertarian is just a Progressive class warfare identity politics codeword for "selfish rich white person" that reminds you of selfish rich white Republicans.

I get it now. Carry on.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 02:01 PM

— M.B.S.S.

So you are saying that a market exists for tanks and jets and aircraft carriers and that such a market would continue to exist and be sustainable without its corporate welfare check?

I don't.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 01:59 PM

You've convinced me

I'll now start donating to and voting for politicians that enable the very things I complain about, and just blame libertarians when they do those things, like all of you people.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 01:56 PM

"We, the People still hold a great deal, and are still the ultimate repository, of that power. "

LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Bullshit. Keep telling yourself that.

Thursday, November 12, 2009 01:53 PM

— Baldie McEagle

Sorry I was too busy reading your Ron Paul and Libertarians smear while conveniently ignoring the simple fact that you voted for, support, will vote for again, and will continue to support, the politicians that do the very things you are complaining about.
