  • Farmer's Markets don't exist to these people

[Read the article: Alicia Silverstone's naked PETA ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Don't eat meat/dairy, it is from factory farms. Don't eat fish, it is full of mercury. There is nothing you can do but succumb to the veggie agenda, right?

All I ever seem to get out of watching things from PETA, or "Meet your Meat", is that these people present their argument like there are no alternatives to Factory Farming besides being a veg-something or other, which is simply not true. I guess economic ideas like competition and alternatives are a mystery to some of these Hollywood types, since they always fail to mention that there are such things as Farmer's Markets that are not only an alternative to Factory Farms, but help stimulate and support the local economy as well. Maybe there just aren't any Farmer's Markets in their world?

The truth though, is that most Americans put price as the most important driver of purchasing behavior while ignoring the consequences that lead to the low prices. Goods created in some part through slave labor taint shelves all over the country, but to Americans, the low price obviously trumps all of their ethical concerns.

People can easily choose to shop somewhere else and accept the slightly higher price they are going to pay, call it paying for piece of mind. People can choose to not support factory farming through their wallets as well, by supporting local farmers and farmer's markets instead of channels that rely on Factory Farms, even if the price is higher. But the reality is that piece of mind is not worth as much as saving a few nickels on cheap crap manufactured by slaves and that people would rather pretend they are ignorant than deal with the dissonance.

This is all about agriculture though, a sacred cow in the USA. Just ask Oprah.

  • I'm scared, very scared....

Mr. Sinnard, I'm a writer, which gives me access to insiders. I interview Fortune 500 CEOs, etc. and on the record, they say what we expect them to say, but off the record, they foresee the end of the fundamental elements that house, locomote, and feed us. These CEOs aren't hippies in treehouses. They're Republicans with inside information and here's what I extrapolate from that inside information: 'Savor every single second. The cushy times will soon end.'

wow! A writer you say? And Fortune 500 CEOs? I guess now I am a true believer?

A modern Malthusian Catastrophe, echoed from the the highest spires of Ivory Towers. I'm scared, really...

  • Some Ideas

Maybe they should add some video clips from Greg Palast, or put up clips explaining to everyone what an "IMF Riot" is.

  • The Death of the Petrodollar, and the US

[Read the article: Is Saudi Arabia afraid of the dollar?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Alan Greenspan was on The Daily Show recently. He told a cute story about how wonderful the Fed is and how the gold standard went poof. It was convenient that he ended the story there, and didn't go into the next chapter, the Petrodollar, especially with his comments about "Iraq was for Oil", and how he takes the contradictory stance of supporting oil wars while also supporting alternative fuels.

They could price their oil in euros instead of dollars.

Like Iraq and Iran? I don't think the Saudis want to be in the same boat. They are the darling of the MSM and portraying our "democracy promoting" BFF in the region using anything but the softest and most flattering of lights is a taboo in the US.

  • I didn't vote for Bush the Pagan

[Read the article: Are working moms the enemy?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You demonstrate why Bush voters voted for Bush, who asserts that we've always been winning the invasion of Iraq and that the economy is always strong and that when one borrows trillions, one should just say, "Tra-la-la-la-la," and skip away from culpability and responsibility.

We should have never gone into Iraq in the first place. We should pull all troops out of the region and cut off all aid to the region, Saudi Arabia and Israel included. but, oh wait, that doesn't agree with your characterization of me...

YEEE HAA!!!! GIDDYUP PARTNER, LETS KILL US SOME RAGHEADS!!!

    Is that better?

You want to talk about real issues? How about the Fed bailing out your "Fortune 500" CEO buddies at the expense of the dollar and everyone else? No no no, the issue is how much to raise or lower a rate, not the fundamental question about the validity of fiat money, central banks, fractional reserve banking, and their effects on anyone who isn't rich, i.e. important.

The same way that the Democrats and Republicans have their little pseudo arguments about the Surge. X thousand troops in, Y thousand troops out, blah blah blah, it is all divide and conquer nonsense, one wouldn't dare talk about changing the fundamentals of the policy. Problem Reaction Solution.

My perception of people playing games with monopoly money and then having the Fed bail them out shows me that they are as disconnected from reality as any academic. The US Economy is controlled by a paper factory and protected by the most advanced military in history. But I guess that isn't as valid as your perception of me as a "Bush loving, warmongering, spendthrift Republican". I guess people who share their coloring books can only make pretty pictures when everyone agrees to stay within the lines.

  • Who Cares?

[Read the article: The gay voter's guide to the GOP]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Seriously, who cares?

There is only one war going on in America, the Class War. And The People are losing, all while everyone is busy arguing about a wedge issue. Divide and Conquer. You'd might as well go read about Hollywood Starlets.

Jon Stewart even seems to be giving hints. The rate cut last week was at the expense of living standards in the US, and the people that get hit hardest aren't members of any particular group. It doesn't matter what color you are or where you put your privates, inflation has an effect on everyone that isn't rich. It is the biggest domestic issue facing the US, the economy, and only one candidate is confronting it.
