Brace yourselves

The McCain camp is in full panic mode. They've saddled up a turkey and they're going to do everything they can to distract you from that fact.

This campaign is going to be ugly beyond ugly in week or so.

Original article: Veep too late

It's perfect!

Obama is getting close attention this week as the suspense about his running mate builds. He's used that attention to direct the media to McCain's houses gaffe and to start the negative attacks on McCain that will have to be part of this campaign.

He also out-waited the Michael Phelps media attention hole, and avoided picking Edwards before the recent unpleasantness was revealed.

He's outsmarted the media, the Republicans and all of us again. I do think he'll have gone one step too far if he waits until Friday or Saturday since those are slow news days.

@Jeanette D.

Actually the Dems are making plenty of gains in the West, particularly in places like Montana and Colorado (and Alaska, this year with Ted Stevens' implosion).

But why does the South get the attention? Because that's where the Electoral votes are. Wyoming has fewer people in it than the District of Columbia.

@SeanStuart

That's crabs, not lobsters. At least I've never heard of lobsters doing it, though I've seen crabs do it.

Wait - are you using a computer?

No, no you're not. You're just flailing around on a keyboard. It pisses me off when non-computer pros like yourself pretend to be using a computer to "write".

You have no f'ing idea what it really means to use a computer. Trust me.

Is he right?

Yes, Obama will have to attack at some point, but why not wait until McCain can't really respond?

Start with the sort of low-impact positive ads that Obama's been putting out so far, mixed in with the occasional punch (Original Maverick, for example), then lower the boom big time in October with new lines of attack using McCain's words against him.

That seems likely to be the Obama strategy.

Why Isn't Salon Crushing the New York Times?

The Internet age is upon us, we are told, and Salon is a forerunner. There's no actual physical production costs for Salon, and the potential distribution is anyone in any country with an internet connection, as opposed to the New York Times, which must be printed.

So Seriously(r), why isn't Salon running away with the circulation figures?

Yuengling and Leinenkugel

For a cheap beer, Yuengling is fantastic. It's not a micro-brew or something I'd spend $5 on, but it's also a far sight better than Bud or Miller or any of the other mass brands.

Leinenkugel went downhill after it was bought out. I noticed the change before I knew they'd been bought out, but I still have fond memories of Leine Red's.

Yeah, except

,If you're confident and successful, and kind, and don't compromise - as a male you will do well with whatever woman you pursue. It may take time and you may not get the one single person you pursue, but you will do well.

God knows I ended up marrying way above my attractiveness level by following my own advice.

What's good for GM IS good for America

And what's good for GM now is to quit living in an unsustainable fantasy and start producing the types of vehicles that will help the U.S. move to a clean, green economy and grow industries that will be able to sell low-pollution items not just to Americans and Europeans, but to India and China where the environmental consequences of growth are going to be much much worse than they are here.

@ArthGuinnes

The problem with getting it struck down is that to get the case heard you have to have standing and be able to prove damage to you. In an wiretapping case, how could you ever get proof if the civil cases that might provide discovery to get the evidence you'd need are dismissed by the FISA bill's review provision?

No standing, no case, no appeal, no Supreme Court to declare it unconstiutional.

Leave it to Rove

To proclaim that basically everyone knows the cast as the country clubs he and his klepto-conservative cronies hang out at.

Sorry, Karl, no, I don't know that guy at the country club because I, like 98% of the rest of America, don't actually belong to a country club.

@jebldmm

You may rest your case, but you also lose your argument.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 12:50 PM

@jebldmm - context

"Whenever anybody talks about sexism right now the Obamabots immediatly jump in with 'But Clinton didn't lose because of sexism'. "

You leave out the first part of that exchange where you start talking about sexism in the context of the Hillary Clinton campaign. And of course "Obamabots" reveals your bias to begin with.

Sorry, we're just not falling for that tactic anymore. You want to talk about sexism, talk about sexism, but leave that deeply flawed candidate out of it.
