I always find the insistence on the "THE" in front of "Ohio State" to be amusing. It implies the whole state of Ohio could only afford one University.
jenbynight - Lexington is emphatically not a friendly court for Louisville. It may be close to the city, but in Kentuky you can cheer for UK or Louisville. They're mutually exclusive and very hostile towards each other.
I went to a school with no sports pretensions in a state with lots of other universities so I guess you told me.
As for planes, I suggest you look up Clement Ader and George Cayley before taking too much credit for the state of Ohio.
You did credit the report that Edwards was dropping out to MSNBC, but where did they get the story?
I'm guessing all roads lead to Drudge. Why does the media put ANY credence in him when he's just wrong all the time?
I mean, they use ENGLISH and everything, which is hardly the language from their ancestral home. Come to think of it, German and Italian American singers sound too white because they speak English, too.
What a stupid question. No, of course she doesn't sound too black.
His name was Quisling.
Chicago won't present such a conundrum in about five years. I'm sadly confident that the new owner of the Cubs will want a domed or semi-domed replacement for Wrigley almost as soon as they start paying for the maintenance on that old gem.
Patting yourself on the back, there, Joan.
Who called Joe Morgan the "most perfect ballplayer"? I'm guessing it was Joe Morgan.
Baseball should do everything it can to get its old stars on the air more. I'm not just talking about the Banks and Aarons, but how about the Reggie Jacksons and Johnny Benchs?
What baseball has going for it, above everything else is tradition and history. If it were smart, it'd exploit that.
The people you want for computer science are smart. They have the capacity to make money in any one of several fields. They used to flock to computer science because it was a great way to make a difference in the world while making enough money to afford all the toys they wanted.
Now, however, businesses think "outsource" first thing when they see an area with high salaries. I don't believe that too many jobs have been outsourced to places like India, but the perception is that all of American business IT (where the bulk of the jobs are) WILL BE outsourced at some point.
So why bother working hard to enter a field that won't give you a lifelong career? Go into business or chemistry or accountancy or something else that will let you make a good living for the rest of your life.
Again, I'm not so sure the truth is that US IT will be outsourced long term, but it certainly is the perception and neither women nor men want to go into a dead end field.
Is still there. It's the Museum of Science and Industry and it was the top attraction int eh city for a very long time. The building it is in was the original Palace of the Arts for the World's Fair.
I think the stadium would get used.
I've never been treated well in a Tweeter, and I buy a lot of gear. Last weekend, I went into a Tweeter to buy a cable. I wanted to pay with a credit card and was told I'd have to hand over both my address and phone number to process the transaction.
I told them I didn't want to be on their mail list or in their data base and was told it was a requirement. One sales rep even tried to tell me the "credit card companies require it" - a blatant lie.
I told them to stuff it, and went to Best Buy a little ways away where I walked out with the cable in five minutes, no hassles, didn't have to give them a phone number or my address for junk mailers.
I had previously been told at Tweeter that to add a center channel and subwoofer to a pair of really nice main speakers I'd salvaged from a video conferencing room, I really needed to stay with the same brand because they were specially balanced to work together. When I asked HOW they were specially balanced, the salesman had no clue.
Too many a/v stores have been filled with both ignorance and arrogance, a poor, poor combination. It's no wonder they're getting their comeuppance.
THE BULLS SWEPT THE NBA CHAMPION MIAMI HEAT OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS!!!
But, you know, no big whoop. It wasn't an important game or anything.
But Warriors up on Mavs. Cool.
It wasn't the lack of information about the game I complained about. It was your lack of judgment in judging how important and amazing the Bulls feat was.
I read you because I want your take on things. If I just wanted facts I'd read Reuters.
Bring back Bedfellow! Actually, never mind. I think he's back already under the name Mike Gravel...
There are LOTS of "safety months" In fact, here's a link to one for trucks that cites the high death rate:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:S.+Con.+Res.+50:
That you're trying to politicize this just shows how empty your writing is. Unless you think the Senate is out to demonize trucks also.
Fact is, both trucks and the Internet are tools that can be dangerous. If you read the recommended actions, they're all sensible precautions any internet-savvy person would take to protect their kids from those "weirdos" who actually are out there. Or do you need to TiVO Dateline?
