If the real McCain had run

And not the Republican-machine McCain, this would have been a much, much closer election. He made a huge mistake going after Obama so viciously.

Of course Obama was the perfect candidate for this cycle only because he had such a tussle with Clinton and left a strong organization in all the primry states to help him with the general election.

If we had nominated Clinton, her skepticism about the 50-state strategy would have doomed her. If we'd seen her drop out after losing in say, New Hampshire, Obama wouldn't have been such a sharp candidate.

FIRST - healthcare for children

It already passed, its popular, and it lets them get out of the gate with a win.

DOMA can wait until near the end of the year.

Oh for God's sake.

Let's let the poor man take office and get something done before he gets held up as Roosevelt or Lincoln or Washington!

He's got some serious challenges ahead of him, and I'm yet to be convinced that Reid and Pelosi are the right partners to let Obama get done what needs to be done.

He may turn out to be a great president, but let's just hope he's adequate for now and hope he'll pleasantly surprise us.

@historybuff1

Why are you so angry? You seem to be suffering from Obama-derangement syndrome. Why do you hate America and want to see her president fail? Would you rather plunge the nation into poverty and war rather than see a black man succeed.

heh heh heh. welcome to the wilderness, poppy.

Original article: "The woman's not stupid"

She IS stupid.

Dumb means you don't have the brains. Stupid means you have them but don't use them.

Palin is bright and has shown herself to be a good communicator, tuning her style to reach her target audience.

But my god is she ignorant. She could certainly educate herself if she chose to. Not being able to name one publication she read (at least pick one and LIE about it), not knowing Africa was a continent, and not being to name the NAFTA countries - that's not dumb for someone seeking the office of Vice President, that's stupid.

FCC regulates the public airwaves

Their power derives form the commons of electromagnetic spectrum they regulate. Cable is not over the air so they have no jurisdiction.

That said, basic cable is usually kept clean because they don't WANT Congress to extend the jurisdiction of the FCC to cover mass communication that doesn't go over the public spectrum.

Huckabee, for one would eat her alive

And he's friendly to the same base she'd pull from (well, maybe he doesn't get the horny conservative vote, but evangelicals, social conservatives, etc...).

Original article: Obama surfs through

Obama's birth certificate?

Uh-huh. You know, he might be a secret Muslim, too. I mean, if you're going to repeat the right-wing lies about theman, you might as well go whole hog.

Oh, also, he's a secret terrorist who will impose sharia on the American people.

Hey Camille - I think I just wrote your next column for you!

Original article: Wow! America is cool

What about Profiles in Courage and Six Crises?

I know there's been speculation about ghost writers, but didn't Kennedy write Profiles in Courage by himself and didn't Nixon pen Six Crises?

And of course, plenty of president have written after their presidency - Carter especially.

"For Women"

Yeah, that's who was buying Playgirl. Also, "Details" is only for straight men.

Harold's

As a longtime Chicagoan, it warmed my heart to have the world introduced to Harold's Chicken Shack in that interview (Barack's apartment was near a Harold's when he met Michelle).

Stupid.

You don't reinforce party discipline by caving to a renegade. And you certainly don't give him a committee chairmanship that is centered on the one area you have huge disagreements with him.

Stupid.

No difference between how they'd govern?

Clinton showed how she would have governed by the way she ran her campaign - it was disorganized and wasn't thought through all the way until after she got spanked in the post-Super Tuesday contests.

Obama thought the whole campaign through from Iowa to Super Tuesday to Puerto Rico and beyond to the convention and the general election.

We got the better organized, more thorough person as president.

So you've absolved yourselves.

Now when will we expect to see an analysis of how well hung Barack Obama is and on which side he "dresses" based on pictures of his trousers? It seems inevitable the way you're going.

Sirota on Obama is suspect

Since his column where he attacked Obama for calling Paul Wellstone a gadfly in a recorded conversation between Sirota and Obama yet refused to release the tape of the conversation to let others judge the context, David Sirota has shown he has it out for Obama.

His disgusting "Dear Leader" formulation shows he still has contempt for Obama's supporters, even though they delivered the Dems from the political wilderness

Original article: Franken's camp claims lead

It's more complicated than that

Franken's team noted the opinion of the election judges on each ballot challenged. Their count assumes the election judges' opinions will be upheld.

It's a pretty good assumption, since some the the Coleman challenges are clear votes that they are challenging because its incomprehensible to them how anyone could vote for McCain and Franken on the same ballot.

Wednesday, December 3, 2008 02:02 PM

Sirota's nuts

Yeah, let's pick a fight and spend political capital that we don't have to spend right now to institute a Windfall Profits tax that right now won't generate dollar one.

Not like there's anything else pressing going on.

Lot of stupid in the letters today

Personally, I laughed at the strip.

Thursday, December 11, 2008 01:17 PM

Thank you Bellatrix

It's important to have at least one psychotic comment in every thread and you filled that roll admirably. I salute you.

Friday, December 12, 2008 06:06 AM

The stupid is strong in here today

Seriously, I'd forgotten how desperate and vile the anti-Dem forces get when they're out of power. Wow.

Monday, December 15, 2008 11:51 AM

Lynx - that's not right

You could have a 4/4 split, but if you have a 5/3 or worse split the loser carried fewer than four of the Great Eight.

Thursday, December 18, 2008 06:58 PM

Oh jeez, Joe, not you, too

Here's what he's hiding - nothing.

He's being ultra-cautious because he doesn't want to say one thing, find out later he was wrong and have the media and conservatives jump on him with both feet, weakening his credibility in a time when our president NEEDS credibility more than anything.

Sound and fury signifying nothing is what is in this scandal for Obama.
