omission
[Read the article: Camille Paglia's disco playlist]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]sunspot's take on paglia's list is quite eloquent, so i will spare all the time i was going to take with criticisms of my own.
besides the very worth EWF, Kool and the Gang (as others have mentioned), why no KC and the Sunshine Band (disgusting as they were, they probably deserve a slot here) and the VERY deserving Patti LaBelle? Voulez-vous couchez avec moi ce soir?

past Bush behavior
[Read the article: The midterm elections: The GOP's Iraq, or Florida revisited?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]With regard to the quoted scene with GW and Jeb sitting together on a plane prior to the 2000 election: one of the things that I found disturbing about the 2004 elections was something similar. If anyone remembers election night that year, the president invited a bunch of White House beat reporters up to the living quarters. There he seemed "inexplicably upbeat" about how the election was going that night. To me I saw a man grinning like a Chesire cat, someone who knew what the outcome was going to be. If Hunter Thompson were still around, he might use words like "the president knew the fix was in". He had no worries, his operatives were going to make sure that the election results would validate his presidency. That behavior, more than anything else I saw that night (or written about afterwards), lent credence to some of the so-called conspiracy theories from around the country regarding the discrepency in exit polls and the actual election results. It makes one pause and wonder, and I say this is a very sincere way, about the electronic election systems in place around the country. I am not one to give in to conspiracy theories, but if the results this year go in a direction very different from how most polls are currently showing, will there be serious questions about the overall legitimacy of this government?

a11 offense
[Read the article: Everybody out for a long one! ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, King, for the story on this. What a great innovation! I can see how it would be very exciting to watch and to play, but a devil of a time to try to defend. Considering some of the discrepencies in school sizes acrosss Texas (especially in the largest class, 5A) I can see how this would help the smaller schools be able to be competitive. Having seen variations of the spread offense make college football more exciting to watch, it would appear that this takes that offense to a totally new level. The emphasis on speed and quickness become more premium that brute force and size. Though you state that the NFL would be against it, I would think that eventually, if more schools move in this direction, that they would have to adopt it. 350 pound Sumo wrestlers in the middle of the field with limited mobility are not going to be able to compete in this offense, which would dictate a diffrent type of athlete be available to play it. As fewer large interior linemen are available in the draft pool, the NFL would have no choice but to modernize. Somewhere Darrell Royal must be having a migraine right now.

I'm afraid...
[Read the article: George Bush's scary story]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Current Occupant's penchant has gone beyond absurd to the completely farsical, reminding one more of Count Floyd and "Monster Chiller Horror Theater" from the old Second City Television show. Ooooooo, scary, very scary boys and girls.
