Canned Hunt

From what I've read this shooting occurred at a canned hunt, which of course, means that there was no actual hunting involved. If that is true, these birds were farm raised and placed there by the ranch owner to be shot by the "hunting party." Good times, indeed. Such an outing would be nothing new for Dead-eye Dick. In 2003 Cheney participated in one such "hunt" in Pennsylavania where 500 pheasants were provided and well over 400 were killed. Cheney bagged 70 all on his own. That seems like pretty psychotic behavior to me. What kind of individual would get joy out of slaughter like that? These birds can't possible be edible, it being that they're full of buckshot - which also suggests that very little skill is involved in shooting them. If a child engaged in such a slaughter, he'd (hopefully) be put in therapy in fear that he was on his way to becoming a serial killer. Cheney does it and, well, he gets to run the country (into the ground).

Earnest?

Hey K.L. - so trying to find an alternative to oil makes Darryl Hannah earnest? Damn her for trying to make a difference. Please, please - before it's too late, post another picture of a cute puppy dog and save the world.

how tough is it?

Mark, c'mon do a little bit of reporting here. You say there a numerous examples of Rumsfeld painting a rosy picture of Iraq (and I'm sure there are). Yet you provide only one - and it's not even from his Congressional testimony, which is what Senator Clinton was accusing him of.

That's the funniest thing I've read all week. Apparently Kerry has never seen Stewart interview a Republican before.

Re: "Radiohead disappeared into the world of bleeps and bloops"

seriously? What an embarrassing observation for someone who's allegedly interested in music.

Amen to Petronius

Clearly Lethem is not giving away his copyright. He's merely giving away his option. If the film gets made he gets 2% of the film's budget for (wait for it) ... his copyright (that's just slightly less than the standard 2.5% Hollywood deal). But then again, Lethem can sell his copyright again in five years to someone else, a deal he'd be hard pressed to get with a traditional Hollywood studio.

I would think Salon would be able to make this simple distinction between giving away an option (which writers do all the time in hopes of facilitating the greenlighting of a film) and giving away one's copyright. Oh well.

Congratulations to Lethem for getting himself some publicity.

Let's Not Forget

Let's not forget so-called objective journalists like JUAN WILLIAMS of NPR, who Fox naturally positions as from the left, apparently because his skin is colored and he somehow has a day job as NPR's "senior political editor" - a job that most Fox viewers surely believe should have gone to a more deserving white person. Williams routinely helps carry GOP water as a paid contributor on a variety of Fox shows. And, of course, there's notorious Republican enabler MARA LIASSON (aka Katherine Harris's ugly sister) who loves nothing more than appearing on Fox to denigrate Democrats and praise Republicans. The phrase "NPR Uncle Toms" comes to mind - "Yes masta Roger Ailes, whatever you say, you sure did pay me good for my soul .... "

the myth of a politically liberal NPR

The silly idea that NPR is politically liberal merely demonstrates how rightwing the mainstream media really is.

oh examples, we must have examples:

1) Juan Williams (and Fox correspondent) practically blowing Bush when he interviewed the President a month or so ago. "We're all rooting for your Mr. President"

2) White House correspondent Don Gonyea's willingness to be purveyor of White House propaganda, rarely (if ever) bothering to investigate a White House claim.

3) Mara Liasson's very existence.

Meanwhile, NPR certainly presents many thoughtful, intelligent segments, which apparently is why some people get confused and think their politics must be liberal too. Like the cartoon says, "If elitist means I'm not the dumbest motherf*cker in the room, I guess I'll be an elitist."

fyi

Democracy Now is on Pacifica Radio Network, not NPR.

As the Internets say: "Democracy Now! receives no corporate, government or Corporation for Public Broadcasting grants or funding, with the belief that the independence of their programming would be undermined or otherwise compromised."

unhinged elephants

Ira Glass? Garrison Keillor? Political ideologues? Really?

You're funny, elephantman.

Most people would call them "artists." Must be rough for you that the cultural contributions of Republicans are so minimal.

Your bleeting about liberal bias makes me think of Truman's quote: “I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it's hell.”

P.S. Like much of what you say, your assertions that "Democracy Now" is an NPR show is simply false. Nor is it funded by Corporation for Public Broadcasting or PRI. So really, it's more like saying The Sopranos is on Showtime.

Now be a good sheep in elephant's clothes and go back to watching Fox News ....

2nd place for him and for the Dems

Indeed, Richardson's best chance is as a VP - and if Democrats want another VP candidate who brings absolutely nothing to the table - he's awesome. His best asset, being Hispanic, isn't even reflected in his name. Don't expect the voters to catch up. And let's not forget, Richardson couldn't even help swing New Mexico to Kerry in 2004, a state Gore won in 2000. Add being a serial liar, generally misinformed and possessing the speaking ability of a soap dish, Richardson's looking like the kind of drag on the ticket Democrats can really embrace.

Hillary's lack of judgment

If Hillary's embrace of the Iraq War hadn't already cemented her as a candidate completely lacking in judgment, then willingly comparing her family to the mafia should seal the deal. Sadly, it's a comparison that rings a bit too true.

What an embarrassment (and we haven't even gotten to Celine Dion yet).

Hillary simply has no chance to win, quite an accomplishment in a year when the Presidency is being handed to the Dems on a platter.
