  • Accomplice

[Read the article: Doubts over the anthrax case intensify -- except among much of the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Forgive me if someone has brought this up before, but wouldn't the existence of an accomplice in this crime explain the mailing schedule inconsistencies? Ivins must have handed the letters off to another guy to do the actual mailing.

Obviously the FBI would not want to broach this subject because it implies that Ivins was just the supplier, not the mailer, and therefore the real bad guy is still on the loose. Also, it means the mailer might still have a supply of anthrax to use in the future.

Or maybe I've just been watching too many episodes of Monk lately. Nevermind.

  • Props for Bittorent

[Read the article: Hulu is already very good, so why isn't it awesome?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Unlike Mr. Ceolaf, I want everything free and I want it immediately. Apparently that's the way a lot of people want it because that's the way technology is headed.

Regarding Bittorrent, I can understand why downloading a daily show can be a hassle -- you have to wait for someone to upload the original torrent and the download won't be fast until several dozen people have already downloaded it and are seeding. But for everything else I find the combination of thepiratebay.org and utorrent (imagine the "u" is the greek letter mu) to be ideal. I just downloaded the first three episodes of Blake's 7 (500 MB) in about an hour. I've filled up 20 GB of hard drive in under 24 hours before. Hulu might be great, but Bittorrent completely rocks.

  • Speaking of profit motive...

[Read the article: A new use for stem cells: Breast augmentation]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I for one will invest heavily in whatever company learns how to use stem cells to enlarge a man's penis. I'm sure there's a lot of money to be earned in stem cell breast implants, but stem cell penis augmentation will be a friggin gold mine.

  • Not multifuel, but...

[Read the article: Where are the multifuel cars?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In Thailand, which has abundant natural gas reserves, gasoline-to-natural-gas engine conversions are available and very affordable to the average Thai citizen (which means it's cheap by our standards). I know of no such conversions available here in the US.

  • Denver and Aurora Police Chiefs must be Republicans

[Read the article: Denver cop convention]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Tryin' to make us liberals look bad! FOX is going to eat this up.

There had better not be any murders or rapes or burglaries in Denver or Aurora over the next few days. We don't want our brothers in arms to neglect their real jobs, do we?

  • Dukakis

[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    is Duka-Kool!

  • I want to congratulate Mrs. Quayle

[Read the article: Handicapping Palin pick]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

and advise her to be very sure to avoid spelling errors over the next few months.

  • Part of me wants McCain to win

[Read the article: He shoots, he scores]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

just so I can watch this redneck soap opera unfold over the next four years.

  • Not to disparage Palin's manliness...

[Read the article: Today in Palin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

but aren't caribou semi-domesticated herd animals? Hunting caribou must be slightly harder than hunting cows. Granted, shooting one in the face takes a bit of skill, but not if you can just walk up to them.

  • Redneck Soap Opera Episode 2

[Read the article: Father of Bristol Palin's child to attend GOP convention]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Yeeeeee-hawwww!

And from what we know of him from his webpage, he certainly seems like the sort of proper gentleman who was already planning a quiet life together with sweet Bristol when this pregnancy came as a complete surprise.

God, I would love to know how much these kids know about contraception. I already know how they feel about abstinence.

  • She sure as hell

[Read the article: McCain's big running-mate rollout]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

isn't getting the community organizer vote.

I think people need to repeat the fact that at around 700,000 people, the population of Alaska would rank below the top 70 metropolitan areas in the US, including the Albuquerque and Baton Rouge areas. (I only mention these two cities because I've lived in them, and in my experience their mayors were certainly not VP material.) If executive experience is the key issue, then there are literally hundreds of people out there of both sexes and all races that are more qualified than her.

And is anyone else here making the mistake of calling her home town Wasabe? I'm doing that a lot for some reason. I'll go back to eating my arugula...

  • I'm for Dallas for whoever is playing the Redskins.

[Read the article: Ex-NFLer Gibbs: Hail to John McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Having grown up in DC, I'm part of that other group of football enthusiasts. The Redskins never should have fired Unlce Duke anyway.

By the way, didn't NASCAR just catch Gibbs' racing team cheating? Sounds like a true Republican to me.

  • Louisiana reps shouldn't count

[Read the article: And the award goes to ...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's impossible to get elected in Louisiana without being corrupt. Using Huey Long as the gold standard, these Dems probably aren't that bad.

  • I personally feel

[Read the article: "WTF" of the day: Palin wigs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that Raquel Welch would have been a much better VP pick than Palin. Welch certainly has more international experience, and Welch only has couple years less governing experience than Palin.

  • Whatever happened to

[Read the article: Could terrorists use "World of Warcraft" to plan nefarious deeds?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

the big fear that terrorists would communicate by encoding messages into jpegs and distribute them by making fake Ebay auctions? It sounds like a bad Get Smart episode (actually probably a good Get Smart episode), but I know I heard this somewhere a few years back. Anyone else remember this?

  • When CYA meets National Security

[Read the article: Key senators dispute FBI's anthrax case against Bruce Ivins]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Cover Your Ass wins!

  • The jumping question reminded me

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

of my high school experiment where everyone would sit on the right side of the school bus, and when we went around this really sharp right turn, we'd all jump to the left side of the bus. For some reason I couldn't get enough people involved. No one likes science!

If there's any kids reading this, please try it and tell me what happens.

  • Why no study on couples?

[Read the article: Show me the sexism!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

To answer some of these questions, someone should do a study on couples. Add the incomes of a couple consisting of an egalitarian man and egalitarian woman, and compare the total to the salary of the throwback man and his non-earning wife. Clearly the egalitarian couple is ahead, and the traditional man is handicapped by his own sexism.

I guess I would be considered in the "Egalitarian Man" category. I work from home in a consulting business and I could easily take twice as many jobs and make twice as much money, but it would take up twice as much of my time. However, my wife has to commute to her 9 to 5 job, so it's only fair that I take care of the majority of the day-to-day household responsibilities. And I'm happy with this. It's great stress reliever when it's still early afternoon and you realize the most important thing you have to do for the rest of the day is the laundry.
