  • Don't Forget the Coverage of Libby

[Read the article: We don't report so you won't decide]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A few weeks back soon after Libby was indicted, I surfed the headlines on the major TV news sites.

    CNN: Libby Indicted

    MSNBC: Libby Indicted

    ABC News: Libby Indicted

    CBS News: Libby Indicted

    and FOX:

    Libby Resigns

    They're not even pretending anymore...

  • There does seem to be a market for these things...

[Read the article: Tripping over stiltlike stilettos]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Somebody is buying evil shoes, and 6-inch is pretty tame.

    I present as evidence: punitiveshoes.com

    Or just google "ballet boots".

  • Don't confuse this with male-involvement programs

[Read the article: Fostering fatherhood or marriage?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I just want to state that these "fatherhood initiatives" might be confused with, or might even include, male-involvment programs. These programs try to bring the father, or perhaps some other male figure, back into the lives of children lacking a father figure for whatever reason. They have nothing to do with marriage and they seem to be tremendously helpful to children. These are good programs and shouldn't be tainted with this marriage hullaballoo.

  • I thought the previous Ask the Pilot column was just fine. Keep up the good work, Patrick!

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I read "Ask the Pilot" to learn about flying from the perspective of someone involved in the business. It doesn't have to be all facts: opinions are welcome too. Do I agree with everything? Of course not, but I still value the information. Keep up the good work, you elitist motherf**cker!

  • National (Reagan Ugh) Airport and That Smell

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    About Reagan National:

My father, a staunch Republican, made a very good argument that the closest airport to the capital of the USA should not be named for anyone. Most people from DC (my hometown) agree with this, regardless of party loyalty. Unfortunately, the GOP declared Reagan dead in the early nineties and decided to name everything they could after him. My dad and I concocted a plan to make cheapo plaques and christen various Ronald Reagan Dumpsters and Ronald Reagan Porta-Potties in retaliation, but we never followed through. Someone should do this for Baby Bush.

    About That Smell:

I think it's hydraulic fluid. I'm sure that's the strong smell at the entrance to the plane, but since it's very viscous I'm sure it permeates everything eventually. Maybe it's a combo of hydraulic fluid and "new car smell", i.e. the vapors that come off of the molded plastic they use for nearly everything in a plane.

  • I just liked it.

[Read the article: "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    It was fun! Nuff said.

Well, I'll say one more thing. For years I've been reading critics (rightly) slam action movies with little or no plot. But when an action movie comes along that tries to pack in as much plot as the action, it is slammed for doing just that much. None of us is bothered if we miss a some of the action in a movie -- so what's the big deal about missing some of the plot?

  • Benadryl is the right idea...

[Read the article: Flying the child-unfriendly skies]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    ...but for the wrong person.

My cure for screaming babies: Two benadryl, three ibuprofen, and a memory foam neck pillow. For me, of course. And if the screaming still gets to me, I just grit my teeth and think about the good karma mileage points I'm earning.

  • Thank You, Oh Thank You...

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

... for calling DCA Washington-National. Even my father -- a staunch Republican -- was against naming it after Reagan. "The airport serving the Nation's Capital shouldn't have *anyone's* name attached to it", he would say, and I agree.

  • Where's the data?

[Read the article: Too young to tie your tubes?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If someone were to produce data showing that, say, 95 percent of women under 30 who had tubal ligation regret the decision and want the procedure reversed (it can be reversed, can't it?), then the doctors would have stronger ground to stand on. But if no study exists, then the doctors are basing these decisions on their own opinions, not fact. This falls into the realm of bad medicine in my book, not just mere paternalism.

  • Correct my math if I'm wrong, but...

[Read the article: Buh-bye girlhood, hello trampy 'tweendom!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If the author's "tween" days were little over a decade ago, and her daughter is 11, i.e. a little over a decade old, does that mean she gave birth when she was a tween?

Either the numbers are exaggerated or there's a serious and personal backstory going on here...

Um, maybe I shouldn't have brought it up.

  • Sorry, my mistake...

[Read the article: Buh-bye girlhood, hello trampy 'tweendom!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The mom wasn't the author, but the author that the author was quoting. I guess that when an author adds personal comments to piece about another author's personal comments, my brain malfunctions.

I do not have the blogging mindset, I'm afraid.

  • XX and XY

[Read the article: Fear of a female planet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm confused. Doesn't the sex determination come from the sperm, which comes from the male? If more females are being born, then that means the males are creating more X sperms than Y sperms.

Another possibility is that XY embryos are for some reason not as viable as XX embryos. Maybe this is where the estrogen-like chemicals are coming in.

Frankly, if the sex of a fetus is actually being changed (XY to XX) in the womb, then I'm officially really freaked out.

  • I don't mean to sound conspiracy-adled here...

[Read the article: Dan Rather stands by his story]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But wouldn't it have been a good move for some Bush lacky to take the original memos, retype them word for word on a newer typewriter or word processor, mimeograph them (or whatever they called copying in the 70s) to make them look authentic, and destroy the originals?

If they were "leaked" to a journalist then that news agency would be holding a time bomb -- the moment they make them public the proportional-type/superscript thingy would invalidate them and embarass the news aganecy. Of course, if the real documents ever popped up, people would say that someone just copied the "forged" documents using appropriate 70s technology.

The truth would become lies. Personally I hate these Bush crony M-Fers (as Bill O'Reilly would say), but if someone came up with this plan, I have to say they're effing brilliant.

  • Might want to check a few things...

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As a former physical anthropologist -- a fancy name for the guys and gals who study old human bones -- I advise you to do some research into the legality of bringing Native American human remains into the country. I think you might have committed a felony there, my friend. Start with a google search for NAGPRA and go from there.

Believe it or not, the worst part about it is the "Native American" part. I think it's only a misdemeanor for bones of white people.
