What about the crew? they are responsible for making sure everyone gets off the plane. If you wait with your dog for everybody else to leave you are still endangering the crew since they will be waiting for you.

I should also mention that the crew is trained to go through the plane after everyone has left (if it is still safe to do so) and I bet they would grab any pets left on board if they could.

I do agree that the other commenter was a bit of a dick about it though, the person with the dog was trying to do the right thing.

I spent years as a flight attendant so I can attest to how important it is that you leave all your belongings behind in an evacuation, it really can come down to a matter of seconds. The time spent grabbing your purse may not mean the difference between life or death to you but multiply that by all the other ladies on the plane and it most certainly will matter to the people evacuating last. In case you are the type of person motivated by nothing other than yourself it would probably help you to know that if you sling that purse of yours around your neck on the way out you are simply increasing the chance that it will get caught on something (especially if it has a nice long strap as you mentioned) and you will block an entire exit path potentially causing the death of many innocent people who quite possibly had the decency to think of their fellow man before their car keys. Alternately they could be less decent and trample you to death enroute to the exit as you struggle to free your purse from whatever it has been caught on, my guess would be one of the dozens of armrests between you and your nearest exit.

While we are talking purses, I would also like to take a minute to mention what a terrible idea it is to wrap your purse straps around your legs. Think about getting up to evacuate a plane only to find you have tied your feet together. It might sound stupid but it happens every single day and when evacuations occur people panic and they will try to run away with purses tied to their feet. The commands we are trained to yell during an evacuation are "RELEASE SEATBELTS" because people will forget that step "LEAVE EVERYTHING" "COME THIS WAY", it is that basic because at that moment that is the level of function you are going to have. And yes- the slides are dangerously steep and most people bail hard at the bottom.

Sorry to be a harsh bitch but the truth of the matter is attitudes and statements like yours are dangerous and easily deadly.

Where do people come up with this stuff? There have been several conservative politicians suggesting privatizing some very small aspects of the health care system (like MRI clinics) and they have been so roundly rejected by the people that they don't bring it up again. It is political suicide. Some people have attempted to open private clinics but most of them have failed and/or have been found to go against the Canada Health Act making them illegal. The system here is fantastic and the small problems that do exist are problems with funding- not problems with the system. I have never, and I mean never, in all my life, heard a single Canadian wish for a private American style system. We would like the finding cuts reversed, but leave the system the way it is. Please please stop believing all this shit you hear, it is simply not true.

Mating with 'other ethnic groups' actually improves the gene pool and reduces inbreeding depression. It is called hybrid vigor. Keeping a so called 'pure' society just increases the risk that you will develop a whole plethora of nasty conditions. Somehow I don't think that this is what he was getting at though.
