Imagine you are a US Muslim....

Glenn, on the mark as usual.

So suppose you are a patriotic US Muslim, and not confused, as is Brooks. Would you not be conflicted?

The Ft Hood shooter apparently suggested in a presentation that if we are going to attack Muslim countries, we should be prepared for this type of internal event.

Suppose Jewish were asked to attack Israel? Would they do so without being similarly conflicted?

A strategic threat

I believe that some time in the future we will be looking back and asking the same question about Israel, that we do today about Pakistan.

--has this been a marriage of convenience?

--has the aid been worth it?

--do we really share values, or has this been a con job?

Both Pakistan and Israel were created in 1947 in the name of religion, both are nuclear states, and both are unstable and would be failed states if it were not for US support.

Israel is a bigger strategic threat, given its industrial links (companies like Amdocs, Checkpoint) and sensitive contracts ramped up post-9/11. We should be prepared for blackmail.

Or, has it been happening already?

Insanity to continue to be slavish to Israel

Last week the house voted to condemn the Goldstone report....without inviting Goldstone to discuss it. This is standard procedure for AIPAC votes, to try and close debate.

In January, both houses of Congress unanimously voted to support Israels attack on Gaza....overnight, without discussion or debate, in an AIPAC bill.

Obama demands a settlement freeze, Hillary kowtows to Israels and backpedals.

Israel, meanwhile hardens its apartheid and continues a land grab.

Is there any instance when Israel has reached out to try and improve the lives of Palestinians? Such as, starting and expanding distance learning programs? If Gaza kids were given computers and provided opportunities to learn, would they still throw stones?

With a tiny fraction of the aid we give it, Israel could successfully compete with Hamas to provide services to Gaza citizens. Would that help, or undermine Hamas?

Or, does Israel think that Palestinians are fundamentally inferior, without brains, to be bombed?

If so, is it time to try an economic boycott?

Perspective, please!

Pakistan is a real country, with a central government and trains that run on time and universities and restaurants and a $3b hightech industry. It is not a deadbeat collection of dusty illiterate mountain villages like Afghanistan.

The suicide bombers that are terrorizing Pakistan cities originate in the tribal belt. Pakistan has been in denial, is not taking it seriously. 600,000 is tiny compared to 175,000,000. The army had to bash them bad enough, and for a while they will fight back and try and ramp up terror.

At the end of the day, this is a Pakistan problem, and the country has no alternative.

We should support Pakistan in this fight, put our troops out of harms way (but poised to respond) and let them lead....and take the casualties.

The GOP is sick

And the illness is fatal. Why is Lieberman still hanging around? He should be kicked out!

Muslims are as American as Jews and Buddhists. This kind of baiting is frightening.

Its time to act, Barack

It is time for Obama to deliver on his promises to the gay community.

Action.

Thaks Glenn for reminding us of the difference between words and deeds.

Iran

Fareed Zakaria GPS is one of the shows on CNN that is really good. Today he had a thoughtful panel on Iran.....

He also had Goldstone of the Israel war crimes report......

We need more such programs on cable channels..... (Charlie Rose is on PBS).

Respect counts

Treat others with respect, and they respond. This does not mean they stop looking out for their own interests.....

The neocons and the Israel Lobby has been desperately trying to get the US to see Iran as a monolith impossible to talk to, just an adversary to be attacked.

Lets put a McDonald on every block, works better than a blockade.

Whats the alternative?

Great video clip!

It seems as though the US and Israel both have weapons that have to be used, and the question is, who to bomb? Reminds me of Rumsfeld wanting to attack Iraq because Afghanistan had no targets left.

This sickness is likely to claim Israel (which is smaller) before the US. Israel is an apartheid state, its historians discuss Palestinian genocide as an option, and if it were not for the US it would be a failed state.

The key issue seems to be, how to free ourselves from the military-industrial complex, and get back to one vote per person rather than one dollar a vote.

Thank you!

Thanks for the posting and the terrific commentary. This is indeed necessary reading for all Americans.

It seems that Muslims have been terrorized, our constitution violated, and our national security compromised. Each and every one of these bastards needs to be publicly disgraced.

Strategic threat

This protective media establishment is a strategic threat to the nation. While a double standard may work to prevent Americans from knowing whats going on, but the rest of the world sees.

Teriffic writeup

Glenn, what a great writeup. Keep on exposing! The death of print media and the lower cost of access to individual contributions and blogs will spell the death of these fetid journalist cabals built on power and money.

I used to get 3+ print newspapers daily, and subscribed to 10+ magazines. You know, New Yorker, Business week, Nation, etc etc. Now I have a subscription to WSJ which I wont renew, and read the rest on-screen.

My bookmarks tell the story. The first (with my first cup of coffee) is to your blog, and I am rarely disappointed.

Keep it up!!
