Glenn, once again, thanks for a well written piece. McCain seems to be telegraphing his punches, and it may be that most people still do not see it coming. McCain is becoming the new darling of the neoconservative movement, and the facade of disdain as displayed by the "anybody but McCain" GOP pundits will quietly fade away.
What respect I have had for the man in the past is being usurped by his war mongering pseudo-patriotism.
McCain's track record on Middle East expertise speaks for itself.....Hamas, Fatah, Al Qaeda, whatever.....they are all
the same batch of terrorists. It is too bad that McCain's former commander, Adm. Moorer, did not have the opportunity to talk some common sense into the man.
If the story about a Dahlan led revolt is true, do you suppose the MSM will report it with equal fervor? THAT would be news.
Glenn,
thanks for the insightful piece. I am afraid that most Americans have little idea of how the rest of the civilized world views our relations with Israel. There is a perceived "double standard" that applies. The latest Israeli spy situation is a case in point. If the alleged spy was from any other country, the news would be splattered all over the front page. It is an issue not debated because it is simply not reported like other important topics and few people are informed. Israel denies ANY spying since 1985. Condi is mute, and the neo-cons continue to spread the terrorist message. It is perplexing that this spy case is relatively "back page" news.
With many news topics that deserve our attention, but seem to be ignored, we are flooded with spurious(undocumented) comments as to how Obama can't win the big states, Hillary supporters will go into hiding or vote for McCain!, etc.
I hope the MSM does not have some hidden agenda and try to subvert the fact that the majority, albeit narrow, support the man. If so, why would they do that? Does Obama threaten some group's interests?
It is a good thing we have a lot of Admirals and Generals to choose from.....we can always find one that will travel lockstep with the neo-con agenda.
What did Admiral Moorer say about the U.S. military and foreign influence all those many years ago?
"Clearly the party can lose either way -- by nominating the candidate of the elites and African-Americans (who are clearly disproportionately not among the elites), or by nominating someone who represents mainly older white voters."......
It seems that the Democratic Party has a hard time learning lessons from previous defeats. Trickery and Deceit (GOP) will win every time over the Politically Correct (Dem's).
I find it hard to believe that there was not a Democratic Candidate that could make the bridge between the different sides of the party. This country has had almost 8 years of incompetent, neo-con, hidden agenda control....and the general election is still going to be close??? It could have been a slam dunk.
I hope I am wrong, but the Dem's may have snatched Defeat from the jaws of Victory, and another Republican will give us another four years of misery.
Some disenchanted voters may end up viewing Nader as maybe "not so nuts" after all.
Thanks for pointing out that not all Jews support Kristol's drivel. It turns my stomach when his ilk, (Christian, Jew, Muslim alike) preach Dogma to support criminal agendas. Has America denigrated itself to the point that neither American foreign policy or Israel's role in the Middle East can be fairly discussed and analysed?
Glenn, thanks for addressing the issue. In today's MSM, there seems to be far too little examination of these topics.
I sincerely hope that this type of bias is not universal in the Main Stream Media. When the American People only hear one side of a particular issue, the possibilities are devastating.
WHY does there seem to be such a one sided approach to reporting all issues related to the entire Middle East?
McCain and his neo-con buddies make it so easy to undertand the entire Middle East situation. There are only three sides..
1. The Good - Israel and her supporters
2. The Bad - Al Qaeda
3. The Ugly - The rest of the World
I am thankful for lexicons like Saban; they can always be counted on to direct one to the Truth.
"In most states, Ralph Nader will probably be there, too, though his influence is likely to be limited."
I would not be so quick to negate Nader's appeal. He gets virtually NO PRESS from the media, but is still running significant poll numbers. Many view him as the ONLY candidate that looks at the unending Israeli/Palestinian conflict in an objective manner.
McCain seems to display a one track mind when it comes to the "War on Terrorism".....
Keep fighting until we win, at ALL costs.
When we run out of competent soldiers, then what?
If the Dem's lose, they will continue to kiss up to the man. He could then continue his representation of foreign interests in lieu of his Congressional responsibilities.
I think we may be giving Mr. Cheney too much credit. What the American people and the press really need to do is carefully examine the real architects of the neocon dogma. The movers and shakers of this mentality must pay allegiance to interests other than the people of America. To whom is this allegiance directed? Where do Perle, Feith, Wolfowitz, and the Rumsfelds
get there income from? Are they still employed by the U.S.?
I hope not.
McCain can't support this bill and at the same time prepare for another war in IRAN. We are running out of troops......
perhaps another draft???
"Today, we face an enemy that is not only expansionist in its aims, but has actually attacked our homeland -- and intends to do so again........"
Here we go with the Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, and Cheney neo-con
rhetoric again !!!!!!
