  • Was I the only one who got sick watching this?

[Read the article: Where to now, my sweet fascist?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The answer to hate speech is more speech, not less speech. How does telling AC to shut the f*ck up and get sexually abused help in pointing out the many flaws in her arguments?

How would you feel if some redneck comedian did the exact same letter, only substituing Hilary Clinton for Ann. Frankly, I find this disgusting, and until people realize that this IS NOT funny, we are not going to be able to get the discussion back to what matters -- remember the issues - you use to care about them!

  • I call bullsh*t

[Read the article: Must I always be haunted by the loss of my one true love?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You can NOT swim across the Golden Gate drunk at 2 a.m. This is a bizarre exagerration, if not total fabrication. I must admit, I was as amused by the response and the original letter, so bravo for that at least.

  • can we talk about white tea a second?

[Read the article: Sweet smell of snobbery]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I began sampling white teas at shops and purchasing it at stores about 18 months ago, assured that this was "da kind" stuff. Between you and me, the flavor seemed weak, not subtle; and all I wanted to do was put half a Splenda packet in my cup - yet refrained because that would mean I was admitting defeat (dammit!!!)

Is it just cause I'm an ex-smoker and have destroyed whatever taste-buds I needed to appreciate this....or is this just another hyped aesthetic to exclude those not in on the joke?

  • Ready to write him off

[Read the article: My boyfriend saved me from myself -- but now he acts like my jailer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After yesterday's column I was ready to write Cary off, but then I got to "I mean, it's a filthy habit. Then again, so is life."

It is a simple truth that everything we do in life will kill us; from the food we choose to eat, to the cars we drive, to the air we breathe. As a former smoker, I still cringe when the first thing I hear from somebody after they've been told that so-and-so has lung cancer is, "well they smoked, right?"

Like if we die it's our fault? And if you don't do any of the top 100 bad habits you will NEVER die. I can't be around people who smoke anymore, because for some bizarre reason ex-smokers are way more sensitive to second hand smoke than normal - yet I don't judge smokers.

I've rambled -- stopping now. Let me end by saying bravo for cutting to the chase of the puritanical argument.

  • Linking to fake blog news bums out my day

[Read the article: What else we're reading]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You should take down the link to the story about the Catholic Church excommunicating everyone involved with an eleven-year-old rape survivor getting an abortion as it is not true. How about a little fact checking yourself next time?

  • yawn

[Read the article: I'm young, rich and beautiful but so very unhappy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

All I can say is I really don't care. What criteria does Carey and/or Salon have for the issues that it/he chooses to respond to anyway?

  • Our dreams aren't always just about ourselves

[Read the article: I have found hell on earth -- an "MBA program"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There but for the grace of god...etc.

I was in your shoes with the smallest difference being I worked my first year of law school and didn't take loans. So when I dropped at the end of year 1, after winning an award for being the outstanding student in contracts, the only consequence I had to face was the crushing disappointment of my mother. I recall she cried and I felt like a total failure -- but I rallied.

I switched into a wonderful graduate program in the Humanities and am very happy in my new profession teaching at Community Colleges. But, and a big "but" it is...if I had that debt I would have sucked it up and I'd be practicing law now. Not just for myself, but for my future husband and family.

It wouldn't be my first choice (obviously), but I'd make it work because our dreams aren't always just about ourselves.

  • Missing a step

[Read the article: The ones who weren't]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I honestly don't understand why you were prepared to abort from what you'd said earlier in your essay. When you wrote that decisions made at 24 were different from those made by a more mature woman, how? You still seem bullied by the men in your life.

I know you have reasons, and I respect your grief at your miscarriage; but your journey isn't explained in the essay and I find that frustrating.

  • Huge #1 NW fangrrrl

[Read the article: The K Chronicles]

I so live here! Where are you going to be at, I want to have you sign a book!

  • ridiculous

[Read the article: The minimum wage went up, so the owner cut my hours!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Nobody in San Francisco over the age of 15 works for minimum wage. Nobody in The City (no matter what age) get only minimum wage after over a year of employment. This letter insults the intelligence of your readers and makes me wonder where Cary actually lives....?

  • why why why

[Read the article: My daily bread]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I find this exerpt very moving when the author is being authentic - but I openly cringed at the segments about being in San Francisco picking at sandwiches of sourdough and veggies. There is a middle-ground between the two "blue" and "red" states (of being). Maybe the book is trying to lay the groundwork for that...I'm intrigued but still not sure if she's going to get where she wants to go without insulting believers on both sides of the spectrum.

  • April Fools!

[Read the article: I used to be in love with Dan Savage]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I know this has to be a joke because I read the original column (weeks ago) and Savage said that the situation described was unhealthy and needed to change. Hope you got your kicks off pretending this was something it wasn't....har-dee-har-har.
