Original article: Reefer madness

Seriously... cough.. cough

Marijuana growing has long been a means of support for all sorts of boho types, notably musicians. There are a lot of musicians that would have to get day jobs if they were somehow legalized out of existence. I don't foresee that happening any time soon... if for no other reason that there's even MORE money being made off of marijuana prohibition by the law enforcement/prison/rehab industry.

The first state to get away with full legalization - and the tax revenues that would undoubtedly go along with it - will make the load of booty that the mob took out of Vegas look like chump change.

I'd say

An ounce a month is a pretty reasonable standard. And 15% is a low ball estimate of the number of pot smokers in this country.

But then... I live in Oregon.

and....

If Klytus' assessment is accurate, then why feel the need to read and post about them?

Oh... right. "Polls are for... a holes" and meaningless, kneejerk, snarky electronic comments are for trolls.

Original article: Who's arrogant now?

arrogance?

"It ain't braggin' if it's true"

Often attributed to young Cassius Clay, another audacious black man accused of arrogance.

bikers?

There's very few actual bikers in Stugis anymore. They're all lawyers and accountants, or GACK! Republicans.

rednecks

The original "rednecks" were union activists involved in the kinds of "direct action" that would curl the hair of what passes for a labor movement these days. The "red neck" referred to red bandanas they wore around their necks to identify themselves in a scrum.

Original article: From your cold, dead hands

protection? From whom?

None... NONE... nary a one of the NRA paranoid delusionists - a subset of humans that mirrors the nut fringe right wing of the GOP (i.e. pretty much the whole party) - will EVER "defend" the U.S. Constitution by taking up arms against the government. It just will not happen. Most of these milquetoast militia wannabes are fall into line sheep being led around for commercial reasons by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Wayne LaPierre; they're noting more than pre punched meal tickets.

It's ridiculous to even pretend that any of these NRA types would EVER take up arms against their own government... in particular if that government is "approved" by the voices on their radios and the "news" from Fox.

rights

We have the right to do anything we damn well please, including ignoring the officially sanctioned "protest zone"... or anything else for that matter. What we don't have is the right to do so with impunity. Thus it has ever been.

What we DON'T have is the right to be free from arrest for doing whatever we damn well please. This, too, is the same as it's ever been.

Graying hippies will remember that the protests in Chicago were unsanctioned, unofficial, and ultimately met with a violent push back and many arrests - complete with a massive show trial for the perceived main instigators.

13% not surprising

It's not surprising that 13% of the viewers of partisan Republican propaganda aren't automatically McCain voters. After all only around half of the REGISTERED voters manage to vote in any given general election. And the registered voters are only a somewhat similar percentage of those who COULD vote, if they could be bothered.

to sum up

"Good beer" is the brand that the respective letter writer(s) drinks.

Having been on the stuff for going on 45 years, and having processed endless kegs of American lagers into piss over the years, I am quite happy to be drinking good, super hoppy ales in Portland, Oregon. If some find that effete, arrogant, or being a dupe of sophisticated marketing, so be it. Enjoy your swill.

And yes, I DO drink it for breakfast.

quite often.

Fortunately

I don't know anyone who is voting for any Republican. At least nobody with enough balls to actually admit to me and then sit still for the subsequent lip beating. And I like it that way.

Original article: Did Elizabeth Edwards know?

Honestly...

I'm just curious, mind you. But why do you posters who are in such a panty twisted knot over Salon even daring to mention the Edwards imbroglio so eager to not just read it, but feel compelled to instantly post how much you DON'T want to read it?

Seems like some sort of public ceremony of self flagellation thingie going on here.

Personally, if I'm not interested in something I just don't bother reading it.

Works for me.

well put Sandra M

Not being a jock, I was ready to not like this article, but the more I thought about it the more I came to the somewhat same conclusions as you.

and yes... cut yourself some slack Jennifer. Many, if not most of us have similiar feelings at times concerning sacrifices we had to make to pursue something that carries our passion.

@PonB

I submit that there's a good possibility that Bush DID NOT actually win Ohio in 04, but rather Diebold and other GOP operatives "won" the fight over vote counts. Just like Florida and SCOTUS in '00.

I'll NEVER accept that Bush actually won either election, nor will I accept that he's ever been the legitimate president of this country.

Some people's fathers are Muslims.

Some people's fathers are Republicans.

Some people's father are trolls.

my condolences

I didn't know of her, being a west coaster, but I extend my condolences to her family, friends, and constituents.

Not to be too crass, but what does this do to the campaign? Did she have credible opposition? Will someone with stature and visibility be able to step in and maintain the seat for the Ds?
