All these concerns about the supposed ill effects of marijuana seem to be reflecting their prospective writer's fears about what they might do if they should partake of any pleasure. Some of these letters are so Calvinistic that one is left waiting for the proposals to erect stocks beside the picnic benches.

Honestly. I've smoked pot since I was 14 years old. I have a home I own outright, TWO simultaneous, relatively successful careers, happily degreed children, healthy grandchildren, and a wonderful long term marriage to a non pot smoking wife.

I know tons of people just like me. I also know a lot of good old hippies - a description I gladly embrace myself - who decided long ago that the standard, acquisitive American lifestyle wasn't for them. They're as happy as any of these morose doomsayers... happier, in fact.

Nobody is forcing ANYBODY to smoke pot, drink beer or wine, go to church, gamble or whatever it is that makes you feel good. The small percentage of unfortunate folks who DO have troubles with any of the above vices - or the plethora of other diversions - should not be the determinate as to what the vast majority are "allowed" to do for entertainment and relaxation.

If you can't handle it, and the pursuit of it is affecting your life, it's your responsibility to be both self aware enough and self disciplined enough to deal with YOUR problem. Don't insist on the lame excuse of ridiculously malenforced laws to save YOU from your own weaknesses.

I wasn't referring strictly to opinions that pot should be illegal; just the far more common scoffing personal testimonials and recitation of anecdotes concerning supposed semi inevitable ill effects on one's life of smoking pot.

That doctors don't want a patient to bring up sex no matter what the genders of the parties involved. I'm not so sure that the gender debate really belongs here. And, also to my experience, most men simply don't want to discuss sex vis-a-vis problems. Sure... guys will always toss around ribald sexual anecdotes, make jokes, and brag, but problems? Forget about it. This in spite of the wall to wall limp dick commercials on TV 24/7.

I think Biden was a good choice. He knows his shit, and yeah... he says what he thinks a little too bluntly sometimes. I view that as a strength, not a weakness.

And, unlike some other letter writer, I enjoy carpet munching as much as the next guy and I've never had a problem with the pubic hair "going up my nose" or anywhere else.
