I'm sick of this Planned Parenthood bashing

When I was a newly married 20 year old in 1970, with no insurance and little money, Planned Parenthood provided my wife with gynecological services, and a wide array of birth control options at an affordable price. When we decided to have a child they were right there for us: referring us to lower cost alternative providers, and help with little things along the way. They were extremely helpful and reassuring to us - a young couple starting a family together.

We continued to rely on them after that first pregnancy... for affordable birth control and associated gynecological services. Later, when I decided to get a vasectomy - not covered by my insurance at the time - they referred us to a low cost provider for that.

Throughout they were friendly, helpful and reassuring. I think the world of Planned Parenthood. They're a great organization that is unfairly tarred as merely an abortion advocate. NOT ONCE did I EVER see any such thing. Sure... I suppose IF we had decided that an abortion was what was necessary, they would have helped us there as well... that's what they do... they HELP people to implement the decisions that they've come to, or even to counsel them about alternatives... one of which is abortions... LEGAL, SAFE, AFFORDABLE abortions.

If you don't want a damn abortion, DON'T HAVE ONE. But don't blame Planned Parenthood.

Why not Vitter?

Lecturing on values?

Hell... the REAL head of their party is admitted street junkie, who had his help purchase jars of illegal prescription medicine, has been caught smuggling illegal Viagra in from a notorious hot bed of child prostitution, and can't seem to keep a marriage together even after three tries. And that's just limpballs. Go down the list... Gingrich... another "values" candidate who served one of his multiple wives divorce papers when she was in the hospital being treated for cancer.

This is too easy.

Where's the proof

that this douchebag is even human... let alone that he was "born"?

So somebody shot a cop...

To quote the mind numbingly gleeful police state fan Lyons.... BOO fucking HOO HOO...

"Oh ... the poor cops... they have such a hard job... it's understandable that they operate with impunity, never have to answer for anything they do, up to and including murder... I mean... It's a HAAAAAAARRRRRRDDDDD job"... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Today's pig

tomorrow's bacon.

Until the "thin blue line" is CAPABLE, let alone WILLING to face the fact that a significant percentage of their ranks are filled with racists, thugs, and bullies, and then root these legalized criminals out of their ranks, there will be NO respect for the cops across broad swaths of society.

Yes...

How many of the "unfavorable" numbers are due to people on the left like me who are dissatisfied with the corporate for-profit health care industry friendly trial balloons that are being batted around by the Democrat's internal Republican caucus?

Yes, I wish Obama would do some dope slapping. Would it be effective? Perhaps in the polls... but, pragmatically, probably not. There's simply too much corporate money influencing Congress, and Obama. That's politics in the 21st century (and the 20th, the 19th, and the 18th, to be honest). So, we'll get the "best compromise" that money can buy.

But I'm sure there's a good portion of those falling numbers that are progressives giving up on any hopes they had for actual progress toward a rational health care plan, which, face it, IS single payer.

It was a pipe dream to think we'd get anywhere close to that.

The reason it's "not an option" for men....

Is a lot more complicated than male against female sexism. It's as sexist to buy into the gender role rigidity that DENIES men the right to consider a role as the domestic partner in a relationship. A man who stays home to take care of the kids is seen as a slacker, "living off a woman" to the vast majority of both women AND men. Even after all these years of "equality". A woman scorns a man who would chose this route; a choice many women see as their birthright.

Until that day that BOTH genders are given equal opportunity to envision themselves in ALL the different roles that society offers, there will be NO equality for ANYONE.

I think of myself as a feminist in the mode of gender neutrality and equality. I WAS a stay at home dad in the early 70s and again in the early 80s. I'm all for equal pay for equal work... all about opening up formerly genderized professions to everyone. I even work in a damn pink collar job nowadays. But, I can count on the fingers of one hand the women that actually accept, let alone admire, a man who wants to "stay home with the kids", instead of "bringing home the bacon".

Thanks Joan

Thanks for all you do. I know you're tough. Hopefully the brickbats from the addled only strengthen your resolve. Your website is one of the best things going on the internet. I wish you guys luck. When I get through my own economic set back, I'll certainly subscribe again. You're doing fine, necessary work.

replying to stinky

Is an exercise in futility. There's nobody home. Stinky is the whack-a-mole road kill of this site... thus, the moniker.

That the idiot posting as elephantman would squeal like a stuck pig if ever placed in a similar situation to Gates. These "if you aren't doing anything wrong the cops won't mess with you" types always do.

The definition of capitalism

It's kind of morbidly hilarious that the same industry that has so successfully stripped away and covered up our bodies' natural odors is now churning out synthetic pheromones that are meant to mimic a biological process that we're not even sure exists.

Different products - same strategy.

Hell... it works for everything from stinkpretty to Fox News Corps. It's Limbaugh's business plan in a nutshell.
