Jailhouse lawyerin'

From the couple of decades that I've spent as a union steward, this case presents a classic case of insubordination. My advice to people being asked to do something they didn't think they should be asked to do was always, EMPHATICALLY to "do what they tell you to do, and THEN grieve it". In cases other than clear cut situations where you're being asked to break the law, or endanger yourself or others, ANY flat out refusal to "follow a direct order" could and would be seen as insubordination, and that is nearly universally ruled as a firing offense by arbitrators. Of course, a REAL lawyer can always fudge the exceptions, but, clearly, in this woman's case, she should have done the flight and THEN grieved it.

I am, of course, assuming she was unionized. But, since there's a gender discrimination aspect to this, perhaps that's not even the main consideration. I believe that, even in the absence of a union contract, the same principle applies: Follow the order, THEN grieve it.

First teabagging....

And now Santorum?

Well... if one accepts popular culture's definition of those two terms at least it's logical.

pay attention to who?

Salon would be better off asking average Catholics and not regurgitating what these self appointed “religious leaders” say Catholics believe.

We'd all be better off ignoring what ANY believer in imaginary sky beings "thinks" about morality.

Ok, you malcontents....

Obama is a corporate fascist... Obama is the same as Bush... or worse.... Obama doesn't know anything about the constitution.... blah, blah, blah....

So.... let's see... the permanent kvetch section of the choir - sonofloud, something stinks, etc., etc., - either A: loved Bush, but just hate Obama because he's not corporate fascist enough; or, B: Would bitch about anybody to the right of Abbie Hoffman as president. Not that it makes any difference.

Hey... I'd like a REAL Socialist in there too... BUT... 'Bama was one of a binary choice. Realistically, he was the ONLY choice in the race for anyone other than the 21% dedicated loser remainder of the Republican party. He is what he is. To claim that he's "the same as Bush" is sophomoric bleating. Seriously... some of you malcontents basically post the same damn thing, over and over again, to the point where it's beyond predictable and into cartoonish. 'Bama's only been in three months .... Give the guy a chance. He would have to be supremely incompetent to do worse overall than the pathetic fool who occupied the White House immediately before him. Unless, of course, you're one of those delusional dead enders who still identify as a Republican.... If so, so sorry....

@navy guy

I guess he didn't see the tidal wave of crazies taking over the republican party.

Rudy Giuliani IS one of the crazies. Or at least he wants to be.

Original article: Mommy, what's a vagina?

people who don't have children

sure seem to think they "KNOW" everything there is to know about raising them. An honest person soon realizes this isn't true and adjusts. I hold no such hope for the troll here.

@ jerseygirl

With all due respect... that so called argument you raise is a tired old for profit health care industry standard. It is, basically, baloney.

Nearly EVERYONE (save the extremely rich and the top levels of government "service") PAYS now for health care. You think I'm not aware of the $1200 that my insurance costs every month? That's wages I COULD be getting... BUT... it's also taxes I could be paying to a universal system rather than to enrich corrupt, heartless insurance industry plutocrats. Even with this nice, high end insurance coverage I'm still spending well over $300 a month ADDITIONAL - over the premium costs - in co pays. This is single + one coverage through Kaiser.

The canard that "people need to be made aware that health care isn't free" and its variations is just that - a canard. What your post is arguing for is simply status quo with greater and greater costs being passed on to the individual while the for profit health care industry wallows in obscene profit.

We've already tried THAT.

while we're at it....

I don't want to see that smug ahole from Verizon any more... or that perky chick from the all white insurance company... or ANY more esurance cartoons.....

The alternative was no alternative

Sure... 'Bama was the only rational choice. The only one who could actually win and break the back of the hideous Bush regime's policies. And sure, around the margins, and even on a few issues important to me, he seems to be making the right noises. But... damn... we need some REAL leadership here... we NEED to push through nationalized health care... we need to have iron clad protections against rapacious environment crimes... we need to stop the hemorrhaging of our nation's wealth into the offshore accounts of well connected heels. But all we're getting is more dithering and excuses out of the Democrats. I'm not so blind that I think there's "no difference" between the Republican Lite of the Democrats and the full court press corporate fascism that is all that's left of the REAL Republicans... but I had hoped for so much more. It's early yet and there wasn't any other choice to make and I really didn't get sold on "hope", but I DID have hopes that maybe some of the corrections would actually be accomplished. With Pelosi and Reid in power there doesn't look to be much chance, and 'Bama's too much the technocrat and not enough the street fighter to knock their heads together effectively... so far, any way.

It's early, I guess.... and ... well... at least I don't have to listen to that smirking idiot on a daily basis any more.
