I know the suggestion was somewhat in jest... but....

Montana is truly one of the last, best places on earth. There are many people of the old order "conservationist" (as opposed to the misnamed "conservatives") there, as well as progressives, and just plain leave-me-alone individualists. It is one of our most beautiful states; blessed with a geographic abundance and richness almost unheard of in most other areas of the lower 48.

These nut cases should be isolated a dealt with in place. Take care of your own garbage before sending on to some other place where it's not wanted or welcome.

I speak as a son of Montana and a life time resident at the "end of the road" on the Oregon coast - another place that the nuts, malcontents, and misfits from the rest of the country have long ended up

Let the damn state go.... We'd solve the illegal immigrant problem in a heartbeat. Let all the damn fools who still call themselves Republicans defect! Set up refuges for the small minority of decent people in the state. Just get rid of them... let them go... sooner the better.

The individual interviews of the attendees at these events ALL reveal a complete disconnect with reality. Apparently asleep the the last eight years, this supposed "sleeping giant" that couldn't even rouse itself to vote in another corporate fascist in the last election, has conveniently forgotten the name of the last president - a man primarily responsible for much of what they were supposedly protesting.

There's no message here... there's no real outrage, focused on anything even remotely related to reality. I totally agree with a previous poster. These people are just pissed that their "football team" (party) lost, and the reason they're so mad has only ONE real focus. "Socialist" is the new "n-word". The vast majority of these people are simply racists who are afraid to admit it. It's simple as that.

The REAL force behind this fake "movement" is simply rank racism. The new code words - "socialist", "totalitarian", "communist", "fascist" - are only stand ins for the one word they really WANT to use, but are afraid to: Nigger.

Don't pick on the music that has come out of Texas. While allowing for different tastes it is awfully hard to argue that the likes of Bob Wills, Lyle Lovett and Flaco Jimenez (just to pick three off the top of my head) are crummy country music.

And, as has been pointed out, there are (and have been) a LOT of people in Texas who ARE NOT idiot wingnuts - Molly Ivins, Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan (another random 3 off the top of my head).

Dubya and Good Hair are no more representative of Texas than they are of this country on the whole.

Texas has a HUGE musical influence all the way from German Polka band to the blues and beyond. I don't think there would be a truly "American music" without the giant contribution of musicians that call and have called Texas home. My whole life has been spent exploring and playing varied forms from there, and I don't feel that I've even scratched the surface.

This is NOT the kind of behavior that a self styled "Christian nation" should even contemplate engaging in for one second. Let alone a civilized nation.

Seriously... just how would Palin turn this series of events around? To do so, she would have to abandon everything that her erstwhile supporters claim to love about her. Like most con job "conservatives" usually do, she's painted herself into an ideological corner. She has a small base that are so rabid and doctrinaire that she'll lose them the minute she stops kowtowing to their every absurdist belief; thus ending her national ambitions.

Palin hasn't shown any ability or inclination to actually govern - at least not since McCain nominated her. Her extremely thin "act" is merely that of a tiresomely predictable publicity hound, disguised as an attack dog "pit bull with lipstick". It's territory that is getting more and more crowded as the rabid right wing base contracts. Palin's in competition with the Coulters and Ingrahams of her flat earth universe. That doesn't give her any room for "turning around" her actual job of governor, even IF she wanted to or had the skills to do so.
