Welcome to the debate, Salonistas. How stimulating it might be to discuss, as serious adults, as lawyers, and as informed military law experts, how to handle Gitmo detainees.
Is this bozo actually claiming to be a friggin' lawyer, or an "informed military law expert"?
GAD!
I mean... I never really paid any attention to this freak's supposed back story, assuming anything he'd said concerning it would be highly fictional. But... A LAWYER???
I thought the Bar Exams were difficult.
Now I'll have to recalibrate... or at least clean the coffee off the keyboard where I spewed it in a fit of guffawing.
Huckabee doesn't give a flying fig about controlling women's bodies... it's VOTES he wants to control. Lust for power. That's all it is.
If these religious freaks and other assorted nut cases that make up the Republican party these days REALLY wanted to "stop the baby killing" they would have done something about it long ago. They never do. What the hell other issue has given them something to control the legions of snake handlers and holy rollers like abortion? It's more important for it to remain legal to Republicans than it is to the most radical abortion rights supporter.
Sure they're moderates. There's nothing radical about organized labor - one of the primary sources of money to run ads like this. Organized labor is only radical if one's place on the political spectrum is slightly to the right of Mussolini - i.e. a self identifying member of the Republican Party.
Oh.. ok... I read it again... sorry. Yeah... I agree with the previous posts then.
These poor fools STILL just can't believe they actually lost an election. They're incapable of processing that. Let alone possessing the introspective ability to try to figure out why. Here's Jindal, jumping in bed with the fat junkie (eeeeuuuuuwwww!) ... while the flustered old white Republican men in congress are calling Obama "out of the mainstream"....
HE WON you fools. He's THE PRESIDENT. He lives in the White House. It don't get any more "MAINSTREAM" than that.
Should the flat earthers prevail in this vote it could end up being a good thing. In many parts of the country, including the majority of this nation who just cast off the people who champion backwards views such as this, the whole creationism crowd is looked upon as complete wackos, fighting battles that were decided a century ago. Voting for this could be seen as such an overreaching that it could completely unravel the stranglehold that hicks such as some on this board have on textbook content nationwide. There will be PLENTY of places - places with MORE (many more) people than live in Texas - where textbooks such as the ones envisioned will be soundly rejected. In fact, I could easily imagine such a huge backlash that any publisher who gets on this anti science bandwagon could very well find themselves with warehouses full of unsold books.
So... let these luddites have their 6000 year old earth and their "doubts" about Darwin.
But... cut Texas out of the union? As much as that would be a satisfying punishment to collectively inflict on the place that gave us the last eight years of hellish incompetence, one has to remember that Texas is (or was) also home to Lyle Lovett, Janice Joplin, Bob Wills, Billy Gibbons, Molly Ivins, John Hightower, Ann Richards, etc. .....
@Nathan Coker....
You obviously know nothing about unions or labor organizing.
Nearly EVERY case of intimidation or harassment in the course of attempts to unionize have been on the side of management. That's a non debatable fact. The days of the "union thug", IF they EVER existed, are lost to the smoke of time. Most of the tales of intimidation that the bosses love to whine about are completely apocryphal, if not simply outright lies.
And "the union on the side of the little guy"... WTF? WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK "THE UNION" IS? Organized labor IS by definition the "little guy" in the workplace, with little actual power to exercise beyond refusing to furnish labor. Capital OWNS the workplace, both literally and figuratively.
Spare me your "concern" for the "little guy". If only the "little guy" could have a fair chance at actually organizing a union there'd be MANY times the paltry percentage of the workforce IN unions.
and I'm a proud Union Thug....
Hogwash! If you don't like the union you're in, you simply vote to de certify and organize under a new union. THAT'S WHAT ORGANIZING IS. If these few anecdotal malcontents that Xanthro is spinning his tale about REPRESENT 50% + 1 of the local they can do anything they damn well please.
And Nathan.... for dog's sake... you've been watching too many 30s gangster films. The calendar has passed on. This is 2008, NOT 1930 with some fictional mob boss controlling "the unions". Hell... there's less than 10% of the private sector workforce even IN a damn union... ANYWHERE... including big, old, bad ass Chicago.
You know who is in unions now? Women... In governmental jobs. The biggest unions are SEIU and AFSCME... and I happen to KNOW that there are no thick fingered, pinky ringed meatheads in the employ of either one of those unions to intimidate ANYONE.
Get a damn grip. I don't give a damn if you hate unions and love cowboy capitalism. At least TRY to be honest about what you're talking about. IF you even have a clue... either of you jokers.
FIE!
Until this article.
So, I went to his website and googled up a bunch of other stuff about him on line. Through this exercise I have come to the conclusion that this poor fellow is a poster child for low self esteem issues.... much like Rush and Glenn and... well.. a whole host of the poor downtrodden commentariat on the right wing. All this grievance... all this victimhood... all this oppressed white male angst!
Pretty humorous stuff on a slow news day.
