I ain't one...

but using words like "prattle" to dismiss a female voice (of any political stripe) doesn't seem to guarantee that any women are going to be amused. Last time I checked (November of last year), the GOP could use a few female votes.

'Bama's got this one in the bag

Calling out Limpbaugh was brilliant. The more that 'Bama can pin that fat assed mug on the elephant's ass, the better the chances of crushing the Fascist party forever become. Make the word association be Republican = Limpbaugh and 90% of the next campaign's work is done. He brags of a few million listeners - a figure that will become their vote total.

as an Oregonian

I would highly recommend John Kitzhaber. He was an emergency room physician turned politician. A state senator who rammed the Oregon Health Plan through the legislature. It was one of the earliest attempts to move towards universal health care, done small on a state wide basis. He later served as Governor during a time when the legislature was dominated by insane, far right Republican cranks and did a damn good job of protecting a lot of what he'd accomplished. He has integrity, smarts, and experience. Plus, he's a kind of colorful guy, in a western, Oregon way.

He'd be perfect for the job, IF he would take it. He likes to fly fish a lot and doesn't seem interested in playing power politic games anymore. So maybe he would just turn it down. You couldn't find a better guy though. Seriously.

(and no, Oregon isn't a "speed bump" between California and Washington. In fact, Washington is simply the "lost counties" of Oregon... as is northern California, and parts of Idaho, Montana and B.C. ... look up "Oregon Territory".... so there!)

dear poco

I don't think you understand what's going on. It doesn't matter how much money Limpbah makes in the short term; he's not the target. I believe 'Bama and his advisors are merely taking advantage of the leadership vacuum on the right to herd them all behind the blimp, and thus plaster the blimp's image on the Elephant's ass for a good, long time. Little Hudson's ego is so easily stroked that he's been punked into accepting Barack's "elevation" of him to the position of "leader of the Republican party". If the blimp makes a ton of money off it, all the better. Mush can indeed have "millions of ditto heads" lining up behind him.... 20% of the population. The rest of the country thinks he's nuts and that applies to anyone who takes him seriously. And that's being charitable.

@ tillydog

Hey... just bein' a ol' mossback here. Tryin' to keep up the image of a "go the hell away, and leave me alone" Oregonian.

And yeah... it's a really nice day here in stumptown, ain't it.

Don't tell anyone.

But... back on subject... You guys pressin' Dean ought to check out Kitzhaber. Either one would be good. Dean MIGHT be a little too political to get it done. Kitz might be a little too laid back and easily frustrated by the process to get it done.

Both are good choices.

Kitz was floated as a name early on. Don't know about Dean...

Original article: Are men necessary?

most of the posts

come from the disgruntled and unfulfilled. No surprise there. Lots of bitterness stemming from failed relationships and divorce as well.

Hell... I've been divorced. I understand the long term pissed off that stems from that. But I've also been married for nearly thirty years (second try). Having been both a stay at home primary caregiver for infants and toddlers AND the long term primary (read: only) breadwinner, I also have seen both sides of that divide. I've been the "tidy" one in both of my relationships; the more domestic oriented in both my marriages. And I STILL get "bitched" at for various "failings" as "a man". I've just learned to laugh at it... and, yes, sometimes simply play to type, "just because I can".

But really... sure... the title of the article was meant to provoke a lot of the strum und drang that is dripping all over many of these responses, but a little sense of humor and self depreciation go a long way - on both sides of the illusory "gender divide".

Personally, I wouldn't (and didn't) stay with a spouse who was filled with sarcasm, criticism and unwarranted, gender based, nonsensical kvetching. Life's too short. I've learned that if the floor isn't swept up, nobody's gonna die. My wife has learned that if I refuse to shop that I have that right. Everybody makes their own bed.

Hey Felix...

The last Clinton budget showed a surplus. Then boy George came in, cut taxes, and started two wars that have been shown to have wasted billions of dollars on incompetence, fraud and corruption. When boy George left we had record setting deficits. His last act was to throw 800 Billion dollars at Wall St. with NO oversight whatsoever.

Don't try tell me that the myopic insistence on tax cuts now! tax cuts forever! on the part of the completely fiscally discredited Republicans has nothing to do with the financial mess this country is in right now.

The patriot act

Pacific Whim mentions the Patriot Act.

It's laughable that Cheney and Bush point to the enactment of the Patriot Act as an accomplishment. Even the most casual observer with any memory whatsoever left to them knows that Bush, Cheney, Inc. vehemently opposed the Patriot Act and only came to support it once they figured out that it could be used to decertify the union representation of vast swaths of the federal workforce under the rubric of national security....

just tryin' to keep some historical accuracy here....

And anyway....

Is Glenn going to kick his oldest daughter out of the house, or refuse to cover her on his insurance? The one with cerebral palsy?

Sounds like something an alcoholic would do....

or a Mormon....

both of which this hideous little man claims to be.

Hell....

Why not just sell the naming rights to the Capitol Building to CitiBank?

Oh yeah....

that would be cutting, just recycling
