This is what happens when you defund mental health facilities. We have Reagan to "thank" for this. In a compassionate, realistic country these people would be full of Thorazine and safely stashed away in institutions making baskets or some other productive activity.

The argument that "the police have a tough job" is the most intellectually dishonest responsibility dodge in the lexicon. If someone applies for a job that they can't emotionally or intellectually handle do you know what happens? That person gets fired. On the other side of the "thin blue line" there are NO consequences for ANY misbehavior, up to and including outright murder. Until the cops set about cleaning their own house of the thugs, bullies, racists, and outright criminals that infest it, I will NEVER respect anything about the entire institution. If you don't want the damn job, don't apply for it. There's cops out there that wouldn't make decent drive up window clerks. What the hell is wrong with a guy wearing 501 Levis? Hell... it's damn near the national male uniform of the United States. I don't own anything but 501s and intend to keep it that way.
