not a pedophile

Anonymous makes a really important point. Trying to pick up pre-pubescent kids is sick and accurately described as pedophilia. Trying to pick up post-pubescent minors is just wrong and bad and creepy; it's not sick. I believe the term for it is hebephilia -- an antisocial attraction to inappropriately young teens. I actually think it's normal for men to be attracted to adolescents, but normal men recognize that such an attraction must not be acted upon.

hebephilia, not pedophilia

Hebephilia is an adult's sexual attraction to adolescents.

The emails were inappropriate. The IMs were explicit. If you haven't read the latter on Drudge yet, don't make up your mind.

Gerry Studds was, I believe, a democrat from Rhode Island who had an affair with a male page. He was re-elected.

agree with bill

think Terry Dolan and Roy Cohen et al. Self loathing closet cases all.

But can somebody tell me why there is a "page" system at all? I mean I know it's patronage to campaign contributors back in the district, but what is the overt justification? Why couldn't local District of Columbia youths (apparently it's essential they be high school juniors, which is in itself suspicious/creepy to me) serve this purpose? For minimum wage?

rape, not murder was the goal

Both the guy who killed the Colorado girl and the guy who killed the Amish girls were targeting young girls to rape them. The murders were ancillary.

I agree with Mike's comments here. These guys cleared out the grownups and the boys so they could molest young defenseless girls. Some of the boys in the Colorado school even expressed deep anguish at having to leave the girls alone with the hostage-taker.

great points, Sherwin. Plus, psycprof:

Your example about the 3 5-lb bags of sugar actually dissuaded (sp?) me from your point. It made me think: hmm, maybe carrying around an additional 15 pounds (endogenously) could function as a good aerobic workout?

to "no name given"

You wrote:

"Contrast this with the Bible which commands Christians to stone non-Christians, even if they happen to be a member of your own family. I quote from the Bible:

"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you ... Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die." -- Dt.13:6-10"

This Biblical quote is from Deuteronomy, in the Old Testament. It was written a long time before the birth of Jesus. Therefore, it did not command Christians to treat non-Christians in any particular way. There was no such thing as a Christian at the time. It was telling Jews how to treat non-Jewish proselitizers (sp?).

Exactly how did the majority of APA members express their wish that the DSM position on homosexuality not be changed?

"Also, there are tens of thousands of ex-gays out there. Deny it all you want, cover your ears, stomp your feet, but that is not going to make them go away."

We don't need to cover our ears nor stomp our feet. We see your "ex-gays" cruising the gay bars on P Street in DC every weekend. Come on down! Some of them are pretty hot. Most are fairly pathetic though, because thanks to the likes of you they can't make peace with their true nature.

miss america, tara conner

She won the prize for her preternaturally long, lean midsection. But then as soon as she went into rehab and got off the cocaine, booze, and cigs, she put on weight. Was she "healthy" when the drugs were keeping her skinny? Or is she healthier now?

I'm also tired of hearing how "healthy" all those lean and muscular actresses are. The recent stampede into "rehab" should give you some clue that slimness does not necessarily equal health.

Pelosi in a headscarf

Oh pulease. Plenty of Christian male politicians have shown up campaigning at my local synagogue wearing a yarmulke. It's just a when-in-Rome courtesy gesture.

i'll take a shot at brightstar's impertinent questions

"When a baby male is genitally mutilated so his future girlfriends do not gag on an au naturale penis, did he have a right to control his body?"

Even if circumcision were performed in anticipation of advancing the baby boy's future fellatio prospects (which is such a silly premise), my guess is he would endorse the move. I certainly would myself.

"When an 18 year old was drafted against his will to go fight in Vietnam, did he have a right to his body?"

The draft is over, thanks in part to feminists campaigning against it.

"When a father is forced to pay for an accidental child he did not want but the condom broke and she wants to keep it (and has exclusive right to decide), is he entitled to control his body (and thus all that he produces with it)?"

Dude. Do what I did: Vasectomy + sperm banking. I get to decide whether, when, and with whom.

Plus, if there were an accidental pregnancy, OF COURSE SHE has exclusive right to decide. IT'S INSIDE HER BODY. How could you not get that?
