Could you please write an article about the science
[Read the article: Supreme Court upholds ban on "partial-birth" abortion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've read a lot of things about this ruling that I stronly suspect aren't true. For example, the first letter I clicked on when I read letters here stated that all women who needed late term abortions would have to have them by Caesarian section. I don't believe that is true, but I don't have the medical knowledge to refute it. What does this ruling mean, in a practical sense? What options are available to women who need 2nd or 3rd trimester abortions? What is the liklihood that women will die as a result of this? There are so many questions, and I simply don't know where to go for answers. Many sources of on-line information are biased one way or another. How about some illumination?

Thank you Kim - Terrific article
[Read the article: Supreme Court upholds ban on "partial-birth" abortion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]http://dir.salon.com/story/mwt/feature/2002/07/24/late_term/index1.html?pn=1
This really answered a lot of questions. The ones that remain are 1) Has anything in the medical field changed in the last 5 years, such as studies comparing the effects of different types of late-term abortion and 2) how does the law just held up by the supreme court compare to the Nebraska law discussed in the article. I hope that Salon writer's will write an update and publich this article on the front page, where more readers can see it. This is the kind of information that is missing from most discussions of the Supreme Courts decision.

Should we force nuns to not wear a habit?
[Read the article: Broadcasting from under a veil]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have no problems with the hijab, although I don't like the forms of the veil that cover the face. In our culture, there are precedents for women wearing head coverings for religious purposes. Mennonite women and Catholic nuns don't feel they are losing something by wearing head coverings, nor do Jewish men. I don't like the idea of forcing women to cover themselves head to toe - but it's not my right to make that decision for other women.

Hey - both of my Senators made the booklet!!!
[Read the article: The NRA view of school shootings, in pictures]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Very Cool! I love the way they draw the pictures to make the gun control people look like monsters. With those eyes, Nancy Pelosi looks like something out of "Land of the Dead" (I was watching it yesterday... Zombies Rock!). What is this obsession with Rosie O'Donnell?
And the picture of the man protecting his family while "bad, dark people" approach with clubs and molotov cocktails is precious. Why doesn't it ever occur to right wingers that the bad guys are going to have guns, too, and that they will probably outnumber the good guys. That guy really should have evacuated his family before the crisis hit. He doesn't look particularly poor or helpless.
But my very, very favorite part is the drawing of the "Animal Rights Terrorist" - a hairly legged woman in birkinstocks carrying a can of gasoline and a torch. I wonder what they're going to do with the lobster when they torch the lab? Boil it? Naw, probably not. The owl carrying dynamite is a nice touch.
Oh wait... I spoke (wrote?) too soon... I hadn't gotten to the dark skinned people wearing masks and giving gang signals. Haven't these people figured out that there are a lot of white gangs out there? Oh, wait, these are "illegal alien gangs". Yeah, that explains the black people in the picture. There are a lot of illegal immigrants from Nigeria forming gangs in ... well, it must be somewhere, because they're in the picture. Maybe he's just a dark skinned Hispanic. We know how dangerous Hispanic illegal immigrants are.
Come on guys... this is parody, right? This was made by somebody making fun of the NRA, right? Mabye the Daily Show staff? Please tell me that this is not serious. Nobody is stupid enough to put this kind of garbage in print, are they? If this is real, then it is the "Reefer Madness" of our generation.

Da Goosta - Ever wonder why background checks fail?
[Read the article: The NRA view of school shootings, in pictures]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's not an accident. The NRA has been opposed to background checks and has done everything in their power to weaken them and make sure that they are not enforced. They believe that anybody should be allowed to buy a gun, instantly and anonymously... and if a few criminals or psychopaths end up with weapons, well, all of their gun-toting members will take them out before they do too much damage. Their members really believe that if everybody in America carried a gun all the time, we would be much safer. Study after study says otherwise, but these people are not limited by reason.

This guy needs help, not sympathy
[Read the article: I'm mentally ill but I'm no mass killer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"is most of my life to be filled with anger, fear and hatred because I am mentally ill?" "the most violent I ever got was putting someone in a headlock" "I'm not hostile to most people"
Therapy is in order. The writer really needs to learn to own his own emotions, even the invalid ones brought on by the moood disorder. There are treatments for schizoaffective disorder, and you should talk to your therapist about getting into a program to help you learn to let of (or at least deal with) the anger, fear, and hatred. And soon, please, before you go a little bit too far with a headlock and end up in big trouble.

I'm so glad thing are going so well in this country
[Read the article: The haircut primary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They must be, or the media wouldn't have time to worry about haircuts. If we were at war, or if there were economic problems causing thousands of people to lose their homes, or if there were serious scandals within the administration, then the media would have to focus on the problems, not presidential candidates hair cuts... Right?

Northern California has been unusually dry and warm
[Read the article: A hard rain falls: Home sales plummet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I really don't know how anybody can blame these numbers on the weather. Why can't they just say what everybody is thinking: For the last few years, there have been an unusually high number of sales. That is over. The world isn't coming to an end, it's just changing a bit. Buyers are being more cautious, sellers are being more realistic, and realtors/lenders are being forced to live in a world where they have to work for a living instead of being given free money.
